1200 Will I Regret Not Buying An S Model

  1. Hi all, I seem to find myself needing ( yes I need things lol) a multistrada, After looking around for a week a seem to have a feel for prices, my budget is in the high mileage s range or a lower miles basic abs model . Will I really regret buying a non s model and is it just the suspension that is different on this bike.

  2. Yes.

  3. I test rode abs & S models of a pre Dvt
    (2014) & the Dvt abs & S
I really couldn't see how the extra S model price could be justified, but no doubt S model owners will comment differently
I own an abs 2015 dvt & love it !
What you do need to do is test ride the pre twin spark (2013) & the twin spark, that's where your decision lies!
The twin spark motor is a fair bit smoother than the pre 2013 model.

  4. Hi, welcome. I suppose it depends what type of riding you want to do. If you plan on carrying pillion or luggage then I would say go for the s. I'm to lazy to manually adjust the suspension so to have it all sorted for me electronically is ideal.

  5. Hi mak24seven, I went for the s and I absolutely love the bike I am so glad that I did. If you can afford it then go for it, you will not be disappointed.

  6. I bought a 2011 Sport S and love it. Not sure its much different to the 1200 but I got it as I got a great deal and it had hit the 15k miles and had the big service done (5 years or 15k miles whichever sooner) and as it came also with another full service and new tyres it needs nothing for a year apart from tasteful additions of course.

Whats the rough budget? I got mine through Riders of Bridgwater who were excellent. I negotiated a deal, part ex value etc all by email and they delivered and collected my old one too. They have quite a few on their site still including one like mine but slightly newer at £8295.....

  7. I have a 2010 S and it's awesome because of the mechatronic SCU which then adjusts on the fly. It's magic! Make sure the heads have been done and you'll be fine.

  8. Thanks guys, not really what I was hoping to hear lol, it would seem all suggest go for the s. Bottom line, I have seen a really nice looking abs model ( high def pictures only) 2011 8000 miles. to get the same bike on the s side of things needs another 1500 pounds.
I can stretch to this if needed.
The bike will not get used much unfortunately my free time is limited and will share the garage with another couple of garage queens.
Does the abs only model still have rider modes ?
To be honest I don't think I will be disappointed with the basic model but I may always wonder about the s model :)

  9. Still has the rider modes. Whatever happens you won't be disappoint, just don't ever ride an S with the upgraded ECU. If the mileage is higher on the S, just make sure it has had the servicing. This is meant to be a tourer and I'm going to run mine for quite a bit on the mileage front. Don't see why everyone panics when a bike gets to over 10,000 miles.

  10. Lol just sent the guy an email 5 mins ago about the abs model bike seeing if I can collect tomorrow. Lets see how I get on. Any way your post makes me feel even better because that's another 270 pounds ive saved :)

  11. Brilliant, you will love the multi. Keep us posted :)

  12. Good luck and hope you get the bike.

  13. I went for the base DVT over the S.
Most of my riding will be without a pillion so, after a LOT of deliberation I decided I didn't need to go for the S.

I've done 250 miles on it so far and love it, and I definitely don't regret my choice.

    Enjoy.

  14. So...

  15. Still waiting to see if my offer is accepted guys :-( . my plan was to get a lift over today and enjoy the ride back, although we have been in contact today and the seller was out all day anyway but said he would contact me later.
I would like to get a bike while I am still off work for the holidays but that hope is fading fast, nearly all the bikes available within my budget are over 100 miles away at dealers. Even then if I made the effort to drive over on Saturday when they reopen most if not all are not prepared to let the bike leave on the same day. I guess they need to look over them 1st. I will update with a photo when I have a bike :) .

  16. I had to wait over a couple of weeks to collect mine as they did the big service and gave it a clean. Had it 2 weeks then the engine went bang and it went back to the dealer for nearly a month.

  17. I might as well be transparent with my budget guys and then you can tell me if I am being tight ass :) I will stretch to 8500 for an s model with luggage and nice condition . I have seen a couple of 2012 model bikes with around 10k miles at dealers for this price but these bikes are over 180 miles away.
The standard abs model with 8000 miles on I am prepared to offer 7200 for is a 2011 bike ( it looks very very clean ). I have to be aware I will probably wont to get luggage for the bike ( not cheap) and I will always be aware it is not the s model .

  18. MMM! maybe I should go the dealer route and be patient .

  19. I got a 2010 S with full luggage and 6700 miles on the clock. That was for £8900 back in March. Wanted to go via a dealer as I got a 12 month warranty. As it turned out I needed it for a full engine rebuild due to a cam shaft shearing off.
