It was the one in Aylsbury Ducati. Mind is now made up but I do want to monitor oil consumption closely for the first few months. As I have never had a ducati or a twin for that matter, can anyone comment on what I should expect in this regards? Do you find you need to top up quite often on these? I'm going to look for the manual online now and have a read.
6 sleeps Wife keeps telling me to stop being weird watching Panigale youtube videos and start watching porn like every other man my age!
I have had mine since September and I still watch all the Youtube video's! when I can't be out riding anyway! Best of luck for the next few days before you get it.
Ive not topped up between services, however water pump tell tale hole had a tiny weap for 1000 miles that sealed itself.
Finally got it today . Will post some first impressions when I have some spare time. Here are the obligatory images:
Is this the MCN one? I was reading the latest 'living with' thread and from what he said it seems like it was treated well, has had a few sets of tyres on it! I assume the rims are still in a1 condition? It certainly looks mint from your picture! Congrats again and enjoy it
I am very impressed with the way it looked today when I picked it up. Yes, its the MCN one. They replaced the tail that had a scratch on it and the slight scratch on the tank is also gone. (t cut). No sign of being dropped but could not confirm. Drove it in wet mode today as the roads were set. Found it to be: Very light Slightly 'snatchy' in low throttle. Does not like holding the throttle in one position in low gears. Heats up quite quick to 100 when in traffic. Sounds very very nice with stock pipes. Slightly more difficult to move off the lights compared to my speed triple. Tends to want to die unless you rev it up a little more than im used to. (does that sound right?) Indicator cancel button slightly too far in my opinion. On fast sections when you open the throttle all the way it pulls like a train (even in low HP wet mode) Slightly contradictory feeling with regards to wind buffeting. On one hand I was incredibly surprised at one point when I looked down and the speedometer was reading 135mph! I could have sworn I was doing around 85-90 at the most. I actually double checked to see it says Mph rather than Kph. On the other hand, I felt at times as though the screen offered hardly any wind protection. Even when I went bent low with head almost on the tank. Im only 5ft7 so that was quite surprising. One other thing that amazed me is the amount of cars moving to the side as I approach to let me through in traffic! massive difference from the my Speed triple! Cant wait to try sports/race mode!
Most of us that ride 899/1299 seem to be moving towards using the throttle in race mode all the time, but with the traction control set much higher in sport. For the simple reason that the bike is just smoother and more predictable, u know what revs u will get etc. I also swear that my bike sounds different in race throttle mode, smoother and less like its 'retarding' the cylinders (I guess a little like the difference between when a 2 stroke is fuelling bang on compared to rich, and being fluffy) However the upmap I am told really improves throttle when u have cans, but it was 6 weeks between my test ride and picking up mine so I can't really confirm
Good to hear you got one Fwiw I never use rain mode as it doesn't seem to work very well. It doesn't have the high level of electronics but I find sport mode is more than safe enough for bad rain.
Congrats. Regarding Throttle. I concur, very snatchy in Wet and Sport, OK, although it is 'by wire' it feels like it is on a throttle cable with loads of Play. Especially if you are negotiating a very tight corner and blipping it on the clutch, also same as you when pulling away. As soon as she is run in I will be going to Race and setting the clocks and shizzle to suit my style of riding. Again welcome to the club. Fecking Awesome Machines.
FWIW - I have met Tim Thompson on a number of occasions, and he has been around bikes for decades. He has been Editor on a number of the big mags in past years, I think he was Editor on BIKE for a long while. Been on a couple of Eurotrack days where he was on long termers, one time it was a KTM Duke at Folembray, with full luggage on it and backpack, he was rapid.
'scuse my ignorance, but does the 1299 race mode alter the dash in the same way as the 1199, i.e you're left with a big lap timer display and an almost invisible speedo? That's the only thing that puts me off using race mode and altering TC etc.
It does until you configure it back to show the Sport/Wet screen. You can then configure everything else back to standard Race and all you have dialled in is quicker throttle response as the default setting in Race mode. But don't take my word for it, ive only done 204 miles and am happy to be shot down.
So basically you're saying you modify the settings in sport mode to reflect those of race and not use race mode itself?
