796 Remapping?

Discussion in 'Monster' started by LittleMonster, Jan 4, 2016.

  1. I've got an aftermarket exhaust on my 796 and I'm looking to do some airbox mods as well ... from what I understand, this means I'll be needing a remap.

I'm struggling to find anywhere in the South West that does this with a Dyno (I'm based in Plymouth). Does anyone know of a company that offers that service?

Also - Are there any other bits and pieces worth doing to the bike pre-remap? I'm considering binning off the exhaust valve for either a 696 mid-section, or a custom made one.

    Any help much appreciated!

  2. take ride out to CJS

  3. Can you elaborate? I have no idea what or where that is :)

  4. Bristol based i believe. He transformed my M1100s when i had a map done.

  5. They were the first people that I tried after seeing that they offer a dyno service online. I called them and the guy that does the tuning literally said "I don't know how to do your bike - I wouldn't know where to start". Wasn't willing to have a conversation about it at all.

    Great service eh?

  6. If you use GT's then ask to speak to Steve - Top Bloke and he's the only one at GT's I'd trust with me bike.

Chris at CJS did my Superlight and made a massive difference and is well worth the road trip.

  7. It was Steve that I spoke to, he genuinely didn't give a shit. I don't know if it's a first day back at work thing but the customer service was appaulling.

I've spoke with CJS (much, much better) and they've gone over what I need. A closer option would be awesome though! I wasn't expecting it to cost what they quoted (£425) - but it's the first price I've had.

  8. Well I'm surprised at that he's normally very helpful?
£425 might sound expensive but compared to the price of a Bazza/PC plus mapping it's pretty similar costs.
Obviously if you want to revert back to standard at some stage you can, plus if you do any further modding you just need dyno time.
I preferred the CJS route as I hate extra cabling and it also removed the possibility of the piggy back unit failing. Comparison my bike made 113bhp with PC3 and 123 with a proper ecu remap.

  9. It's not as extensive as a full bespoke remap, but a Rexxer tune ECU flash works well on the 796. I've done a few now without any problems. O2 sensors omitted as is the exhaust valve.
Can do it mail order, I just need your ECU. £230 back to your door.

  10. I think I paid £275 for my 848 Evo at MotoRapido but it wasn't a perfect rolling road tested map, it was there super stock (848 challenge) map. I guess if rolling road work is needed then maybe nearer that price. I think MotoRapido wanted £400 ish for the custom map and said that it would only give me another few percent

  11. I just figure it's best to get something which is perfect for my bike, rather than a generic map. I can flash my ECU myself with a pre-made map (Termi, Ducati Performance etc).

  12. Agreed, but I think it's a fairly time consuming Job, not to mention what it costs to run dyno's etc. I think my map was somewhere in between the two, it disabled all the o2 sensor Junk but wasn't a per cylinder map

  13. I have a Monster 1100 Evo, put termi's on c/w airbox conversion and Ducati Performance ECU, big improvement, but was even better, smoother, better drive etc after Nelly at Cornerspeed did the rexxer flash to the ecu.

  14. The custom map will suit your individual bike, set up for each cylinder - fuel & spark. It's a better option. For a bike you've paid thousands it's worth paying a extra couple of hundred to get it spot on. Better fuel economy, power and throttle response.
