Evening Does the 996 require a specific type of front stand? I'm thinking the brackets at the bottom. TIA
I strudel with a normal stand that fits under the forks, not sure if there are other types that are better or not so I have recently purchased a headstock stand, just need to drill a hole in the bottom yoke to accept it. Steve
Struggle, yep have nearly had the bike fall of a couple of times so I now use the ABBA and strap the front to a rafter in the garage when removing the front wheel. Steve
Ah, don't like the sound of that. I have been using Abba with a car jack under the pipes but was looking for something easier and for longer term storage.
I use a Harris under fork stand. It's ok but just needs a small amount of care to make sure it's correctly located before lifting the front. Once up, it's fine. (Story of my life...)
No, the one with the two rubber covered prongs that rotate to locate under the fork bottoms. Works fine on all my bikes.
I've been thinking about the front stand for a few weeks now. Wanting to change the fork oil so the stand that cups the front forks would be no good. I made this one a few months ago and is spot on for stripping the back end down. My plan is to make something similar but with an extended bottom frame with a support arm for the cylinder. Something like this... Shouldn't be hard. I'll have a go at making one as soon as I'm back of my hols. Ian
I use an F G Gubellini front stand which is the pin type, it does however allow you to remove the front wheel and is extremely strong and can take the weight easily. Gubellini were the official suppliers to Ducati for their rear paddock stands under the DP label. Each one has a serial number so if there are any problems they can check it out. This type are ok, but use with cution when the wheel is out! A fork leg can easily twist and slip out! I use mine for track days. These are best(IMO), but some bikes need the front fairing removing first. Mine works well with the 748E frame based track bike as the yoke has a hole and is of a flatter profile, so does not hit the nose fairing. I believe there are other variants that have a cup rather than a pin, so would maybe suit no holed yokes.
the harris one with the prongs is fine to change a wheel on a 996 the headstick lift stand is even better, but you will need to drill out the yoke tho
