848 Most Useless Mirrors Ever?

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by Benvstheworld, Jan 10, 2016.

  1. i love this bike but I have to admit the mirrors are just awful. Not because of the mental shaking but they just seem completely positioned in the wrong place.

Anyone got any tips of what to do with the mirrors

  2. Have u already got the extensions on? That Ducati supplied? U can extend them even more but the vibrating doesn't really get any better

  3. The 999 mirrors are worse :)

  4. Aprilia rsv mirrors sucked also lol i find my 1198 mirrors better tbh

  5. ditch em and go bar end

  6. Bar end are so much better but look naf I just to mine off

  7. IMHO there is nothing wrong with the standard 848 mirrors. You just need to train yourself to stick your elbow out and look between your arm and your body, works fine once you get used to it. Better than having huge mirrors that will vibrate more the longer they get.

  8. The good news is that on the newer bikes it's sorted (not that this helps the OP) other than to say it's not every model, the 899 ones are perfect, really good but I suspect that putting extensions in the 848 ones will make them worse.

One thing I did notice is when I went to a 14t sprocket the bike was chugging so much less it made them vibrate a lot less, worth a go for the other benefits alone.

  9. I love my 1198 mirrors as i think to how bad the 999 ones are and count myself lucky.

  10. Never found mine to bad and it's safer to look forward went riding

  11. Learn the chicken dance :)

  13. Good grief does nobody use the search :Banghead:

Sorry not having a pop I've been know to do it masel.

Anyway if its simply position and not vibration then extenders or barends as has been stated. Though IMHO the biggest problem by a country mile is vibration. Once I changed the mirrors to a smaller :Nailbiting: DP set the vibes were vastly reduced to the point its not a problem and I can see what is in the mirrors. Chicken dancing is now second nature and not a problem whatsoever.

The downside of the DP mirrors, well expense, really crappy front indicator LEDS (the newer ones I believe were improved) and some/many don't like the look (I do).

You can get replacements from MotoScience, not cheap but Henry is a top bloke and knows how to ship ;) I think @bettes has one of the MotoScience offerings. Maybe he'll chip in and give you an opinion.
    Ducati 1198 1098 848 Mirrors

I've been told his DP mirrors also have better LEDs in them than the original Ducati offerings, which would not be difficult.

    Just my experiences

  14. I have a very small Oberon Streetfighter mirror on my 999. You can configure it to stick out of the end of it's own replacement bar-end or out of the top or bottom. I have it positioned over my right hand, so it adds almost no width and is barely noticeable, so doesn't spoil the bike's lines.
Works a treat at filling in the blind spot directly behind left by the standard mirrors though. :)

  15. No, @Old Jock, I had the normal DP mirrors on my 848. I found them a bit better because as said before, they vibrate a lot less. Still had to do the chicken dance but at least you could then see out of them.

  16. Do the standard 848 mirrors have the extenders on them? I'm thinking of taking mine off of my 1198 so i can fit through better gaps while commuting through London.

  17. I think they came standard with a small adaptor on them, about 1/4". IIRC the later models after 2010 came with the bigger extenders on them.

  18. Mine is a 2010 non EVO and the mirrors look like this:

  19. For anyone interested, the parts catalogue does show mirror extenders for this series of bikes. They look like they are about 5cms extra length and the part numbers for each side are 713.1.461.1A and 713.1.460.1A. I am sure they must be available from dealers.
