Ok, while waiting for the rain to clear, I have started looking at the options for Akrapovic system. I think I have it all wrong so please could you correct me? 1. Slipons - no increase in power good sound. reduces weight by about 5kg. Very simple install. 2. Full system - slight increase of around 6 hp. Same sound. More complex install. Servo - Can disconnect while doing the slip on install and there will be no error light on the dash. This helps with flat spot people have reported? (really not sure about this one to be honest) Removing the servo motor is only needed to save some dead weight (how much exactly? I mean is it worth it?) So, if im only really after the better sound Akrapovic slipons provide, do I need to remap etc if I go the slipons only route? Sorry, im sure this has been covered hundreds of times but I keep reading differing things and some of it relates to the 1199 so im never sure what to make of it all. Clarification much appreciated.
Check out Austin racing at carbon conquest, slightly cheaper but amazing results but it does do away with the servo
I have termi slip ons, up map and no servo. Goes a 'bit' better a 'bit' different and weighs less. Kit included a plug for the wiring loom to make the servo redundant. It was only for sound reduction anyway. from what I read.. Best mid range increase is from slip ons. Most top end increase is from full kit. There is an up-map for slip ons, and a separate one for full system. I presume the slip on up-map will have better road manners. At some point I will put the full system on, because the pipes are nicer, and dont seem to dis-colour as much as standard ones do. I also prefer the carbon heatshield of the full termi system. fyi, I run the termi baffles in, because it sounds better, and runs very similar, probably increasing back pressure in the process. Hope this helps
Thanks Ginge46. May give them a call tomorrow for a chat. flatfish, how easy is it to remove the servo and tidy it all up? Where do you get the ECU remapped? On my current Speed Triple I have the software on my laptop. Is it a similar thing with these? with the Akros, do you need to get a separate plugging kit for the servo?
not sure about akras, think they are they same, you just plug the supplied up map into the plug under the pillion seat cowl, once to switch the map on, plug it in again to remove it. Simple. Servos are easy to remove, just cut the servo cable off to save removing more parts than required. Nothing really to tidy up, just a plug end to wiring socket.
With the 1299 upmap, you have to take the bike to dealer to get it done on there system, the 199 was just plug in and go with the supplied upmap. I personally would go down another route if you REALLY wanna get mapped. The upmap is a small plaster for a big cut type of situation. Rapidbike or tuneboy. If ya looking for Akro, I am selling the full Akrapovic system(no upmap).
Try Chris at Xbikes i am taking my 1199 down there today to get the tuneboy software put on which will sort out the new termi running issue, i did not have the up- map when i bought the slip ons
You just triggered a thought I my head. I had the Akra's put on before I picked the bike up. So I have absolutely no Idea if they make it go quicker (still at 6k rpm at the mo), I know they are lighter, but so low down, would I at 90kg even know. They are certainly deeper and a little louder than the OEM that were on the demo. I feel I missed out on my evolution from stock to slip on
I'm getting mine fitted at 600 mile service. Akro slip ons. funny how some dealers don't suggest a run it period whilst others do. I couldn't have my slip ons fitted until it's run in.
I can't speak for akrapovic but I went from standard cans to Termi slip ons. It made the bike deeper toned in sound but not all that louder. It also smoothed the power delivery and gave a slight increase in power. In my opinion buying just the slip ons isn't worth the money for what you get. People on here have cored the standard cans and seen similar results without spending a pile of cash. However I then upgraded to the full system and this is where you see a dramatic increase in power and torque right across the range to a point where I could ride in a gear higher yet feel the same torque and pull as though it was in a gear lower (if that makes any sense!) I think it's a case of all or nothing. The down side is the full akrapovic system is eye wateringly expensive though. It makes Ian's ( @imbloodyskintagain ) system look like a bargain!
I wish someone would buy that system as it keeps winking at me and I really don't have the spare money for it. Mega bargain
Does the up map for the Akra end can disable the flapper valve anyway, as it does on the Monsrer 1200?
Hi Shyboy, I bought my bike with the full Akra on. I enjoy it but have a few concerns. I am skeptical about being able to go on track days with it... Everything I read seems to indicate that most tracks will turn me away for being too loud. I also have no pillion foot pegs installed at the time, but my 17yr son loves going for short trips with me. To install the foot pegs i need to grind into the heat shield... and cannot find a spare one to keep the original one intact (help welcomed). As for power, the place where this bike blew me away was Silverstone, a rental 1299 (not s like mine). I 'll have to ask the rental company if they did anything to that bike but my guess would be not. Conclusion given the right road/track the Akrapovic is not needed... just a lot of space and a heavy wrist.
