1200 DVT Navihalter Fitting Advice

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by nkibble, Dec 31, 2015.

  1. My Navihalter arrived today.

Now, I will start by stating mechanics aren't my strong point but the instructions make no sense to me. I might as well be reading the Hong Kong Book of Kungfu!

Has anyone got access to any clearer instructions or, better still, a YouTube link?

Any advice to help this simpleton would be appreciated.

    PS: Happy New Year! :)

  2. Hi, take off the screen 3 screws. Separate the two sections of the navhalter and place the non gps mounting section over the front of the screen adjustment unit (from the front of the bike).
The metal plate fits under the front of the screen adjuster such that the two screws tighten to it rather than the plastic screen adjuster. So you have the top of the nav halter hooked over the top of the screen adjuster and the screws lock it in place. The hook hangs over tank side of the screen adjuster.
Put the screen back on and fit the gps mount to the figment plate with 4 screws (garmin zumo ) and then attach to the nav halter with two nuts n bolts and swivel to desired angle and tighten. I found middle hole best. Good luck

  3. Now that I CAN understand! Cheers!

  4. I'm gonna pluck up the courage to fit this bad boy today.

£20 says I drop a bolt down into the bodywork somewhere. :)

  5. Fitted the Navihalter no problem, cheers guys.

One question for those with TomTom Rider400. The wire on the adaptor is short before the connector, so there's limited places where the connector can neatly go. Any suggestions?

  6. Could someone post pics of the navihalter fitted but without gps unit in place?

I'd like to see how it looks without a gps as I don't always ride with the gps in place

    Thanks

  9. Hyperextended, in my opinion you haven't installed the navihalter appropriately.
You can see at nav-2 picture where this stainless steel bended sheet must be fitted. That's why there is an adhesive tape inside the curved surface. Also the M5 bolt, shown on nav-3 picture, tighten on this metal sheet.
Also I create an adaptor/extension and I fitted between the base and the plate where the GPS mounts. This gives me more space to adjust the screen and also more space for the GPS (I mean that there are more positions for the GPS). I can upload photos from my installation tomorrow. :)

  11. Following up from my previous post, I would like to add that if someone want to put rubber washers at the end of the adapter then the width of it must be reduced (magenta text in brackets) . All the dimensions in drawing are in millimetres.
Also there are some pictures with and without my GPS (Garmin Zumo 590) fitted.
The benefit of this adapter, in my perspective, is that there is room for your hand in order to adjust the wind screen even while riding.

  12. Yes, that extension is a great idea for access to the adjuster, but I think it might move my sat nav above the short carbon screen I have :( . Works well on yours though.

  13. Hello Blairso, this extension moves the sat nav slightly above as you can see at three last photos.
you can make two cheap braces with dimensions as left view of the extension and thickness 1.5 or 2mm and experiment. ;)

Does your carbon screen fits my Mutley? I can release you from this problem!:tongueout:

  14. Giannis extender for the Navihalter looks the dogs. Anyone know of an engineering firm that could knock/mill one of these up from a single piece of plastic?
Probably not explaining myself very well but I'm sure you folks understand what I'm getting at.
    Lee.

  15. Hello Lee, the extension is not plastic. It is made of aluminium and then powder coated black satin. A machine shop can mill one according the drawings I posted.:)

  18. Fitted my navihalter and and garmin 390 today, very pleased with the fit and results, took about half an hour to fit and about 3 hours to decide on the routing for the wiring!!!

In the end I mounted the garmin power lead box thingy (technical term) on the underside of the fairing upper which sits above the headlight and to the left of the dash. The black plastic piece has plenty of space behind it, just needed some Velcro gluing to the back to hold the box in place.

  19. I've asked Vau if he knows how to get this extension piece made.
