Guy Martin Not Doing The Tt

  1. And I couldn't care less

Guy Martin to sit out 2016 Isle of Man TT | MCN

I don't mind the chap but just can't understand the adulation he receives. It's like a bunch of teenage girls around 1 Direction!

To me he seems self-absorbed and selfish. He doesn't seem to put himself out for anything that doesn't work for him including working with a team who put in the money and effort to give him a good bike. Some may say this is a great way to live your life but I can't work it out myself.

  2. Thought he had retired anyway?

  3. Is he self-absorbed and selfish ? Possibly, but he is also open and honest about who he is and people can choose whether to go along with him or not.

  4. If he didnt have a broad accent and be a walking catch phrase generator I don't think many would like him much....just a point of view mind

  5. Agreed, but he is, and they do.

  6. Entertainment value then. Yeah fair point

  7. Having just finished his latest book it comes as no surprise. The Tour Divide is a 'bucket list' ride and now obviously suits him better than the TT. Fair play to him, bet he'll have a film crew following him though.

  8. I met the Guy, no pun intended back in 2009 in Ireland before all this TV stuff that got him known among the general public who are not so interested in bikes..

I do find it ironic that most the people who think this bloke is a legend would have perhaps thought him an idiot due to the way he talks and things he says prior to all the publicity. I digress.

I asked him for a lift in a pub in Ireland, he did not hesitate and said with a smile while drinking his tea, the vans out side hop in.

I think Guy may have even entered the nightclub (Kellies) in Port rush. I was too interested in the opposite sex to even see what he was up to after I left the van.

The next day, I was on the grid (as a male trolley dolly) and Guy asked, good night last night? Then a man with a fluffy microphone rushed over to him with the camera crew...

I thought, that was odd but then again maybe he just wanted to keep his mind distracted before the race..
I was hung over and perhaps looked like crap as usual, at that age, not taking much in about what was going on, hiccup.

I never thought Guy was an idiot. I like people who are who they are and don't look down their noses at people.

I admire skill but I think it's admirable to be humble and not arrogant with it. I've known other good riders and racing drivers who are not as genuine as they might seem or maybe they were having a bad day, but how people worship fame alone never ceases to amaze me..

  9. Say what you like about him, doesn't change the fact that he is a very fast, highly skilled and talented motorcycle racer, right up there with the very best.

  10. I'm sorry, but anyone that has in past present or future done the TT is all right I'm my book, even torn face Dunlop... When your bollocks are that size, I take my hat off to any of them.

People seem awfully concerned about personality these days and (Casey Stoner and JL aside, they're a pair of twats together) I've no time for it...

  11. A top bloke in my book and I have really enjoyed all the records, the India trip and look forward to future challenges he'll put himself up for. That speed record set on the bicycle at over 100mph on sand was terrifying. He has the biggest balls!

I just hope he doesn't kill himself so in a way maybe a good thing to call it a day on the TT after 11 years.

  13. I think you'd have to forgive his personality quirks wouldn't you ? Doesn't he have Asperger's ?

  14. Just got this email, funnily enough having an article about Guys plans and the 50p off token. Personally I'd require a voucher for £3.00 off now that the puppies house trained and I no longer require large sheets of paper by the back door.

  15. Aye , real shame he's not riding this years TT for sure. Top bloke and I'm sure he'll be back in his own time and on the podium. Wish him luck in the US. See the rest of you in June, bring it on.

  16. I think he's great. If you read one of his books especially the first one, it explains a lot.

He has aspergers, as do I. Makes social things and certain situations very uncomfortable. Very.

It sometimes comes across like you're a dick and people will label you. People always label, it's what they do.

I don't think it's the last we will see of him on bikes.

  17. One of life's true characters that care not much about what others think, a maverick and true to himself, a committed athlete and talented bike racer. From what I've read he just doesn't like the TT anymore. May he carry on fixing trucks and doing whatever else makes him tick and leave those who like racing the TT to it. Must add I'd have liked him to have been there this year because I'll be there on the monster...

  18. Ah. The aspergers would make a lot of sense....must be difficult enough having a mic shoved under your nose let alone if you're already uncomfortable.

Fair enough. I retract my previous ignorant and ill founded statement.....still don't get the fandom though

  19. There is a trend of young people in age group 18-25 being not interested in bikes any longer and choosing cars instead.
Anyone making them more popular among public deserves a credit. More bikers on road means bigger sales, more profit from manufacturers being invested into R&D on bikes and thus bigger range of bikes available to us.

Although Guy Martin gets lot of polarised views and opinions, I think that he contributes a lot into popularising bikes.
