Hello Everyone Adam 23 here from East London. I am not a rider by nature but thinking about getting a bike for commute. Saves me hell lot of a time. Just joined the forum to keep in loop and learn a thing or two before buying my first bike
Welcome Adam! I take it you're not thinking of a Ducati for your first bike? I imagine the insurance, especially in East London would be astronomic! There are some decent options for a second bike for you though I think. Cheers.
Welcome Adam. I'm also in East London (E6). To be honest, few people get a Ducati as their first bike or as a London commuter. But if you do go down that route, good luck. Try Hyside Motorcycles of Romford.
I also rate Hysides as a dealer. Where in East London? Maybe you could go Shoreditch retro and get a scrambler.
Seriously, does anyone know what Insurance would be on a Duc for a 23 year old in London? Maybe reasonable for a little Monster or a Scrambler? I'd be curious to know.
A huge factor will be your security. Garaged? Tracker? Also, you said commuting. Is the parking at work just street parking or a company compound?
My first motorbike was a brand new 600 Monster that i used for commuting into London from Hertfordshire. This was back in 04 though when i was 28, under a classic bike policy so insurance was cheap. Was a great bike though, never missed a beat.
hey guys thanks for warm welcome and yeah actually i am thinking to get Ducati 1198 as my first bike. I swear i love that beast
Dont do it. I never listen to anybody's advice and went for a Monster as my first bike and then a 749 for a commuter which i was strongly warned against - it was absolutely fine. However, i have an 1198s and it is a beast, I've been riding 15 odd years. Its too much of a handful for someone with no experience. To be honest i doubt you could get insured on it either. I'm 41 and was quoted 2200 quid as i have no no claims - been on classic policy's for years.
OK then. If you take up mountaineering you could start with Mount Everest as your first peak. If you begin running, you might try a marathon first. Good luck!
I was going to say a ZX10R for a starter, but I see you're going straight in the deep end. Good man...
Welcome in, fair play on an 1198! I'm sure you are going to respect it, goes without saying that the faster the bike the quicker the things bite u in the Arse! I just remember he first time I got off my restricted 125 onto a 400 and couldn't get my head around the difference in power! Oh how things change! Anyway welcome in, let us know how u get on with it!
