60 year old? I've got another decade to learn to wheelie. JAILED: 60-year-old motorcyclist who popped wheelies and did 153mph caught out by his own headcam (From The Argus)
One of the comments is having a moan at the Box hill folk. "Go to Boxhill or Bury Hill on a summers weekend and you will see dozens of pr1cks doing exactly the same and worse, same as the tuners in their cars driving like t wats when they meet up. As for cyclists, at least the pillocks on cycles can only hurt themselves when going through red lights etc, not nice for those involved admittedly. What is it these people get out of it? An adrenalin rush maybe! They all have family but risk everything. Strange things us humans!"
Harsh sentence maybe but 110 in a 30 limit is asking for a jail term. Why oh why do people who do this think its a good idea to film themselves? And when they say the bike was seized do they mean seized and squeezed or did he get it back again?
Whenever I see these clips it always amazes me how many double white lines in Sussex seem to be there for no reason. Quite a few of the overtakes on double-whites look safe enough to me. I can find loads of doubles in Sussex that I can only assume are there as they're easier to paint than dotted lines! Mind you, if you're going to use a camera and film yourself being a fool at least wipe the memory card before you go out again. Why would you incriminate yourself to that extent? Very odd. I have to wonder whether it's truly in the public interest that he serves "at least a year". Compared to some items on the News this week, including an alleged sex offending and murdering father who wasn't charged, you have to wonder where the priorities are.....
If you wanna ride quick, keep it to the track. Nicely groomed tarmac and very little to hit if you stack it.... A year in jail is a bit harsh....his own film did seal the deal though....
Not a good advert for bikers in those clips. Double edged sword though filming your rides. I've got loads uploaded to youtube and some of the nasty comments you get are about how 'slow' I'm riding at times. The road isn't a race track at the end of the day. There are plenty of places I ride 'fast' and have videos of those too but they are mostly filmed off the road where there are no limits and no risk to others. Still, a year in jail is ridiculous for this offence as he didin't actually cause an accident. A suspended sentence, a ban and a fine would have been appropriate. I was banned years ago for doing 129mph in an old Saab 900 and it taught me a lesson!
Seems to me that they place white lines at the nice straight overtaking points, to force people to sit and do 35-40 in a 60 behind some Honda Jazz driving biddy. They know it's a safe overtake but for health and safety sake they'd rather we all just pootled along behind each other even if it is 20 below the limit
I tried arguing with some people that speed limits should just be a recommended speed rather than a limit. I was shot down very quickly.
I however, like your thinking. What really winds me up are the current 20mph limits all over London. 20 is too slow and just an excuse to fine people.
20mph has its place, but its being abused. Not be long until its 5mph. Time to get the stabilisers out
