848 Most Useless Mirrors Ever?

  1. Thanks Ian, will take a look, much appreciated

  2. The original DP mirrors are not Carbon, but I looked at the MotoScience options and agree they are either carbon or carbon effect.

Best idea would be simply to ask MotoScience by emailing the details are on the web page.

Any communication I have had with them have been prompt and honest.

  3. Put an Oberon one on mine

  5. My hard copy and my electronic manual do not have that many pages.

  7. My 848 Evo has the extenders already. I'm thinking of taking them off - is it as simple as unbolt ink the extender from the main mirror and just swapping the locating dowl thingymabob from the extender to the mirror and then just bolting them on?

  8. Once you unbolt them and pull them off, the extender block pulls right off the mirror and you plug the mirror back in the 2 slots on the fairing stay and bolt it back down.

  9. I put a rear view camera on my 1098. Wired it to come on with the ignition. I found it a real help for being able to see what's happening behind at a glance, especially for seeing other bikes sneaking up on you. I think we've all been in the situation when you're about to overtake a car and another bike comes flying past first just as you're about to pull out. Cost about £40 off eBay.

  10. IMG_2423.jpg FWIW I ditched the mirrors on my 1198. Vibration and positioning made them almost useless.. I fitted CRG 2" Blindsight bar end mirrors with Oberon bar end indicators. No vibration at all and although they have a very slight wide angle to them, they are perfectly good for seeing whats behind you. Filled the fairing gap with Carbon Trader mirror blanks.

Some people won't like the look, but they are all small enough (probable stick out about 1" more than the R&G bar end weights they replaced) that I don't think they look bad at all and it cleans up the front of the bike.

  11. @BIG M where did you take the power for the camera from? Currently have a black screen. The screen comes on but no picture, wondering if i have wired the camera incorrectly.

  12. Erm.. I can't remember to be honest. I fit the screen and the camera and had a friend who's an auto electrician wire it through the ignition so it comes on with the key. It sounds as though there could be a problem between the connection from the camera to the screen. Sorry I can't be of anymore help.

  13. No bother mate, thanks for replying.

I did try another phono to phone lead for the video and the same result, even tried the camera direct to the battery to see if it was getting enough juice. I think the camera may be faulty to be honest.

  14. In business!

I believe the camera wasn't getting the required juice wiring it from the rear light, so i have gone direct to the battery using a spare optimal lead which has an inline fuse and connecting to that. Tomorrow i am going to get a switch so the camera can be off while i try my best to get the bike started, then turn it on once running - going to do the same for the screen too.

Very impressed with the picture quality and also the field of view. The end of the yellow lines is around 2m away and the two other markers (ACF 50 and coolant) are about 3m away from the centre, so 6m all in.

  15. So, can the display/screen be removed or is it bolted in? What's to stop it being nicked?

  16. I can just undo the case and slide it out.

  17. 848 mmmmmmmmm
