  3. " 2 stroke " , seriously ? , i didnt know you could have 2 stroke v4 engines

  4. It's the vulva valve that causes the 2 stroke to use more oil than normal.

  5. As I understand it the D16rr has one piston ring per cylinder - it is very close to the real moto gp bike - as such it lets much more oil past to get burned than a regular production bike would. 250ml on a heavy riding day is not unheard of. Others will have more detailed first-hand knowledge.

  7. They existed during the 1980s. Yamaha sold the RD500LC V4 in the UK following the success of Kenny Roberts in GPs during the early 80s. I think they sold a V4 2-stroke as an RZ500 in some countries. Other manufacturers have dabbled with the V4 2-stroke.

Not to mention the Honda NSR 500 ridden by guys such as Mick Doohan & Valentino Rossi (thanks Olly).

Try searching the net for 2-stroke 500s, they were quite a sight & quite a sound when they were at the forefront of GP racing. Happy memories!

  9. SM- the Desmosedici is not a 2 stroke, it's a 4 stroke V4.

  10. A friend of mine is using said engine in a special he is building.

  12. I think all Ducati use oil. My monster uses about 150ml for each 1000miles if used medium to hard. Easy use is about 100ml. 749 used to need a 1L topup between services so about same, so did m750.

  13. Never had to top any ducati up much between oil changes, 748, sps, 848, st2, 600 monster, numpty, now Evo. Even race bikes didnt use oil and that was thrashed

  14. Never topped my SS either

  15. Oil? What's that do?
