1199 Does Anyone Use A Headstock Paddock Stand?

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by MattM, Jan 30, 2016.

  1. I need to remove my forks to send them to MCT so they can work their magic on them. Clearly I can't use a normal paddock stand that sits under the forks, so it's either hang the bike from the roof beams in the garage or sit it on a headstock stand.

I have a headstock stand for my track bike, so I thought I'd use that one, but it doesn't fit. The pins that come with it are nowhere near big enough for the huge gaping hole the Panigale has under the lower triple clamp.

Just wondered if anyone uses a headstock stand? I might have to look at modifying my one with some spacers or something otherwise!?

  2. For the 1199 I had a pin made up to fit a dedicated KTM headstock stand.

    Pin diameter = 28mm
    Bearing Collar = 38mm
Pin depth = 27 mm with a chamfered edge to help with locating the pin.
    Bearing Collar depth = 27.5mm.

  3. Thanks for this. I think the largest I have in the kit is a 18.5mm, so way off! Did you get a local place to make this up for you? Just wondering if they've done one maybe they'd be happy to do one for me too, but obviously if it was a favour from a mate etc then I'll have to try and find someone to make me one.

  4. Reading this back, the pin depth doesn't seem quite right I'm afraid. Let me measure it and I'll get back to you.

  5. Try slipping a socket over your existing pin, then inserting that into the 'ole.

  6. Good idea, might give that a go!

  7. Those dims are correct.

The Co. that made mine are a metal fabrication Co. and had to be pursuaded to do it I'm afraid (with the aid of £25). Any Co. with a lathe should be able to do it. If you struggle let me know and I'll have a word with them.

  8. Socket over the end works fine on my sons MV.

  9. I'd really like to get one of these paddock stands (without paying stupid money).

  11.
  12. Let me know if you can get it to work with your Pani! I've just tried a socket but the ones I used are too deep and it still doesn't work. I think shallow sockets are the answer.

  13. Will do Matt.

  14. Even if I get a pin that fits my headstock stand the actual stand try's to lift the front fairing before the headstock takes the weight so I can't use it

  15. That's what has happened to me with my bodge efforts so far. I was hoping a dedicated pin would prevent this :(

  16. They don't make it easy do they!
I only want to get the wheel out but even a normal cup paddock stand which sits under the fork legs seem to squeeze the spindle so its like leaving the pinch bolts tight!

  17. I have the Ohlins R forks on my base, so the pinch bolts retaining the axle cannot be accessed with a regular paddock stand. My 27mm front stand pin is quite short, and the stand itself also touches the fairing. I think I need a pin made like the one mentioned above!
