Is this because you just don't want to take your own 899 on track? I really want to book the Silverstone day as I know the 1199 would just shine on track and I never get to use it 'properly' on the road. But the thought of dropping it/being crashed into etc etc fills me full of fear and dread, especially as I have a dedicated (non-Ducati) track bike!
I'm taking my mint 1198 road bike, I don't think about crashing it ,only think of the fun I'm going to have on it!! Just remember its a track day, your not racing Rossi or Lorenzo go as fast or as slow as you like, no body will care if your flat out or just cruising around. Just enjoy your day and stay within your own limits! There will always be someone faster and slower than you.
Yes basically! I to have bought a track bike which doesn't help me making my decision but then at the same time i think i could come off on the road etc so as long as i keep in my limits whats the difference. I fancy doing Silverstone. On another note my screen potector turned up today so cheers for that!
Great, glad they've arrived. Is your Avatar a picture of you at (what looks to be) Oulton Park? Have you had a near miss or something which has made you a little wary?
Took mine last year, and also rented an 899 when my multi was sold and I was ducatiless. Go for it, multi handles it well
yes its me at Oulton. I went a did a 20 min taster session in may last year on the 899 to see if its something id like to do (no issues what so ever) and then hired a MV for a full day to which i realised how much fun it was so a couple of months ago i bought a old CBR steel frame track bike to do some track days this year which up to now i have 3 booked and can not wait! I seen this Ducati track day last year and thought i'd have it this year just need to grow a pair i think.....:flushed:
Just booked the silverstone date going with @cookster! Never done a track day before but really looking forward to the day- not looking at breaking any Lap records though :tonguewink:
Difference is you're insured if you wreck it on the road or some numpty wipes you out. I've taken expensive new bikes in novice/inters in the past but I wouldn't again. Since doing regular trackdays (on my track bike) I've seen so many people drop their mint bikes or even worse get wiped out by some GP wannabe - it's not a nice sight seeing them receive the bike in parts back in the pits! The way I see it now is, if you can afford to take your pride and joy home in a box then you should def go for it, if not, and like me you can't, get a cheapish trackbike to play on and start to realise yours and its potential. OR if you don't plan on doing them regularly, hire a bike for the day and enjoy riding however you feel comfortable without the worry. I binned my track ZX7R at Brands GP last year and literally couldn't give a sh#t. Borrowed spares from others in the paddock and got out again in time for next session but it made me realise how easy it is to make a mistake as your confidence increases...and I was sooooo pleased not to be riding my road bike!
Ive had my road bikes on track with no worries. Loved my 848 on track. You soon forget about it after a lap and then it's all about the fun. If I do book brands, I'll be on the multi.
And I can do silverstone in just over an hour on the multi, so ride there and back too! Held my own OK in fast group last time on multi, inters may be more fun with more overtaking practice tho and most of my mates still do inters
