Hello folks, bit of an interloper at present still trying decide weather to part ex the Crosstourer for the Multistrada s ?
I went the other way after horrendous reliability problems with the Multi, which were exacerbated by poor after-sales service by Ducati UK. See here and here for details. The Crosstourer isn't as sexy or exciting to ride, but I've had no problems with it and it hasn't rusted to shit despite two winters' riding.
Looking at the posts etc doesn't inspire confidence! Do not want to go back to the days of frigging with the thing every time I go out.
Hi Ducbird thanks for the welcome, I do want one but I want the multi s I ride around 8000 miles a year, I don't want breakdowns let downs or rusty bits, and one guy on here needed major engine rebuild at 2300!!!!!!
I'm my opinion, if you are very lucky you may get away with no breakdowns and rusty bits ( if you have level 10 OCD) but I doubt you will get away with doing that mileage without warranty niggles ( in some cases the same issues numerous times). If you are unlucky you will get a bike that will put you off the brand for years..
Thanks for the info Rosso, I'm not level 10 OCD as a mechanical engineer expect value for money and at 16k plus I don't expect problems, " The bitterness of poor quality lasts for longer than the sweetness of low price" But in this case " high price"
In that case your expectations are not unrealistic in general, just unrealistic for Ducati ownership..Best of luck its your decision
Forums are great for highlighting all the bad parts os bikes etc. I had an Aprilia Tuono for 4 years and never had any problems at all with it. If you look an the forums they all bleat on about electrics, stator, brown connector etc, but the owners I've met and spoken to have been ok. TBH, its the same on BM, Triumph and other forums too
Hi Grin factor, I know it's a case of you may get a Friday afternoon or a Monday morning job in all things, if I pop out for a bit of a run it's usually around 150 mile plus Felt like a change from my much loved VFR's not so sure this is the right way to go now especially as my dealer will be 75miles away on the north Welsh coast, that's a long push
@Tomo will do approx 24k after 3 yrs ( average PCP ) . How many Ducati owners have ran a modern bike for that mileage without a single issue or warranty claim? The ' it was completely reliable except....' Doesn't count. Without a single issue?... Perhaps a new thread would be in order for newbies to refer to.
There are many more who ride all year round with no issues @bradders don't you have a multi Sometimes the key to keeping a Ducati alive is riding the bloody thing
Yes I do. Welcome. On my second multi, sure niggles like fuel gauge failure but nothing major. ACF (NOT FS365) the bike and it holds up well enough 6k or so miles a year, all leisure, not once actually let me down even after a few months sat in the garage. Starts, runs, stops brilliantly, sounds good, can do trackdays or 100mph fully loaded in comfort. Last model has bit more charachter than the new model, but new model all around a 'better' bike Bit like asking would you prefer a Accord touring or Porsche Panamara really
Yes so do I. Welcome. On my second multi, sure niggles like fuel gauge failure. 6k or so miles a year, all leisure, not once actually let me down even after a few months sat in the garage. Starts, runs, stops brilliantly, sounds good, can do trackdays or 100mph fully loaded in comfort. Last model has bit more character than the new model, but new model all around a 'better' bike. If you want a vehicle with absolutely no niggles whatever, don't buy a Ducati. Spend the money on a psychiatrist to treat your OCD.
