Led Indicators - Relay Or Resistors?

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by RickyX, Feb 3, 2016.

  1. I am sure this has been asked before...

I am going to fit some LED indicators to my 1098. I have done this on other bikes and know that it is normal to fit a resistor to each indicator to make the flash rate correct.

I noticed today while perusing eBay that it is possible to buy a different flasher relay that is suitable for LED indicators. This sounds like a good idea as it means there is no hassle with mounting four individual resistor ballast thingies plus associated wiring.

Question: anybody done this for a 848/1098? If so, what sort of relay do I need (none of the eBay ones are listed for Ducati's)

    Cheers,
    R

  2. The 1098 doesn't use a flasher relay. The indicators are all driven straight from the dash. If you fit LED indicators you probably won't need resistors. I didn't on my Scrambler nor my Multi.

  3. I am messing with that at the moment. As Derek says there is no flasher unit on the 848/1098 and my LED rears do flash too fast. I have bought a flash controller from ebay (about £3) and it sits in my garage now, I just need to fit it and see how well it works.
If you have a look at THIS and THIS you will see the flash rate that I have at the moment. I will be fitting the unit in the next week and will report on the effectiveness of it.

  4. Hold the menu button UP and then turn on the ignition. This puts the dash into service mode.
From here you can change the indicators between LED and LAMP setting which will automatically adjust the flash rate.
Hold the button DOWN to confirm your setting - it will say "MEM" to show it's saved to memory.

  5. I have seen this before but not sure which model it was meant for, it does not work on a 2010 848 as there is no setting for indicators in the menu.

  6. Anyone tried @antonye 's advice on an 08 1098R?

  7. It will take you 30 seconds to try it on yours.

  8. Should be, they're all the same dash. It's the service menu so wouldn't be different for a specific year/model.

  10. @antonye
Just did what you suggested and got the following options:
    REPR
    Set EXVL
    Set UNIT

Didn't know what to do as none appeared to be Service type menu things so I did nothing!
    Any advice?

  11. Knew you could do the dash setting on the Hypermotard

  12. Great info but...it appears that most replies state that the SEt INDIC function is not present on 848/1098 menu!

  13. I did this on my 848. There is a hidden menu.

  14. Where?
    Do tell!

  15. Wish I could remember. As it is I struggle to remember what I did this morning. I think I got the information from the same link ChrisW posted. I'll have a scan through it...

  16. Know if that would work with a 1098 SF as well?

  17. There may be a menu on his, but that does not mean that we all have the option. I have just checked mine again and there is definitely no indicator option there.
If you read the thread from ducati.org there are people there who do not have the option either.

  18. Looks like you'll need to buy some load resistors then!
