Carbon Bst"s

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Adamwhittuk, Feb 4, 2016.

  1. I have a question.... are the carbon BST's worth it?

its a big payout so don't want to regret it

    experiences?

  2. Depends on what you use the bike for mate, if your chasing lap time then yes they probably help but if you ride on the road waste of money if you ask me, £3000 can get you some very good suspension up grades which would be in my humble opinion far more beneficial. There are cheaper wheel options out there, I've just bought a set of oz piegas great value!

  3. :)

  4. I would have to double check but i'm sure i remember reading somewhere, think it was MCN that they were better then a suspension upgrade. whats the difference in weight between the bst's and piegas?

  5. There not as light as bsts but still lighter than the original wheels ,then there no way as dear either, I bought Mine for a third of what bsts are!!

  6. Better than mag, that rot at the first sign of salt

  7. Oh and the ones I bought are aluminum :upyeah:

  8. I'd say they're a good upgrade,fitted BST's on a triumph Daytona in the past.Instantly improved braking and Handleing

  9. I'm just fitting a pair to my 1098R track bike. Along with a BST carbon fibre swingarm. I can't really give any feedback on how they handle until after Almeria in May. But I can report that they look frightfully cool and that's very important.....

  10. you will notice a big difference on a 899 as the standard rims are so heavy,if it was me i would go oz's and rear shock and suspension set up.

  11. Do u know what the weight saving is for the Piega's over the standard?

There is an article that motorcycle news did as their long term 899 had carbon wheels on it

  12. I'm not saying carbon wheels don't work I had some on my 748r and they are amazing and yes do improve the bike but are there really worth 3k??

  13. What do you you want/need them for?
If it's bling then that's personal choice of course and no amount of rationalising is going to matter.
If they're to improve your lap times/handling then I guess you have to decide whether they're worth the $$$ over forged/Oz and the like or if you'd even notice the difference.
I'd have a set if I could land a pair used for the right money. No way Id' pay the new price, not the way I mince about on a track...:Banghead:

  15. I'm waiting on some of the new OZ GASS wheels for my base 1299. Supposedly 10-15% lighter than the Piegas. I've had to wait a while as I got a good deal on them from the bike show, not getting here until March. It will give me some time to see how the bike is on stock wheels, then see how they improve the handling.

  16. I only use my 1098 on the road and can confirm the make a massive difference to the stock wheels. You'd be stunned to feel the difference in braking, accelerating and turning in. However as Cookster says are they worth £3000? I got mine second hand for well less than half price and think that was a bargain for the improved 'everything'. Thing is once you've had a bike with them fitted you'll want them on every other bike you get.

  17. I've gotta set on my Superlight and really rate them. Bike tips in easier, braking, acceleration, looks. Luxury maybe but I managed to get mine 2nd hand and 5years on they are still mint (Probably be able to sell them for the same price) also never gonna sell the bike.
Light weight wheels are always going to be one of the best mods because they make everything else on the bike work better IMHO.

    Oh and they is SHINEEEEEEEEEEEEYYYY!!!!!

  18. I had a set of stock wheel and a set of BST carbon wheels on my BMW S1000rr that was track only.
BST's were beautiful, strong and well made.
I've been slaughtered for saying this before but I honestly didn't notice a difference on track.
Just how it was for me.

  19. I actually think the BST for the SSSA is ugly.
These would be my choice or maybe the OZs.

  20. Had them on my modified '05 R1(tuned, lightened etc). After initial fitment I was amazed at how good they made the bike feel and then in conjunction with the Ohlins I fitted later, they turned a very, very good bike into a 180hp "LC"!!

A fantastic mod that offers more than one benefit.

A pic for the hell of it!
