Hey there Chaps and lady Chaps, need some help with a bit of a dilemma. My Circumstances changed a little while ago and ive moved from Adllestone Surrey to Crawley west Sussex, Some may remember this time last year i became the proud owner of a 93 Superlight, fairly good nick and cheap, i did a bit of tarting up and she came out looking spot on, so i kept her as she was until last november when i stripped her completely, tarted up the engine, cleaned and sprayed etc, came up lovely, was gonna start looking for powder coaters for the frame and wheels, then my Situation threw a bit of a curve ball and i moved to Crawley. I have a garage which has loads of stuff in it which doesnt have proper space enough to rebuild it. So my question is this if you were me... Would you hang in there and do it very very slowly, would you try and sell it as is and use the money as a deposit on something else (Ducati) or would you try and get a posse of ducati enthusiasts together to see if it can be put back together in record time Oh decisions decisions Any suggestions gratefully Received. Si
No brainer, you used the words "proud owner". That says it all for me. Circumstances change constantly and all being well yours will be on the up very soon. In the fullness of time and as long as it takes, keep the Superlight and rebuild "her". Regret is an awful emotion, don't do it. Andy
You don't have a deadline for rebuilding do you? So take your time, do it as and when you can, and don't be rushed into a bodge. Good luck.
Hi @Pete1950 No Deadline as such but if poss and if i keep it id like to get it sorted for the Horsham bash Si
@Android853sp I get what you're saying and i think deep down if i did get rid of it i would regret it as i was getting nothing but praise when people saw her, but like i said physically re building is gonna be tight Si
Si, serious suggestion to consider, I initially built my 748 track bike in the house but then I am single and live on my own. NC29 engine, 748R engine and a 748RS engine in the utility room, spare dry tyres, wets, engine spares, Multi and Diavel OE bits all in the spare bedroom, original fairings and track fairings in the loft. Andy
@Android853sp Thanks for the encouragement, appreciated, think im starting answer my own question
Move all your stuff out the garage into another room in the house, like the kitchen or bedroom, even better the lounge so u can still sleep and cook. As you can no longer watch TV you will need to find something else to do and realise you now have loads space in the garage to rebuild your Superlight.
I was going to suggest rebuilding in the house Si Don't let her go it will only make you sad Can you move the stuff out of the garage and put in loft for now
@Sev Thanks for that budd it really is appreciated and i think im going to hang on to it and as people have said just build it up slowly, just so frustrating to have something so special just sitting there in bits, need to get my finger out and crack on Here she is with her clothes on, its gotta be done
I think you'll regret selling it. If space is the issue, move all of the offending items in the garage to another place (shed, loft). Maybe easier said than done, but I'm sure there is a way.
I nearly bought Sevs bike, it was a beaut! Now youve posted a pic up.....DONT SELL IT, it'll be awesome when its done. Mine I took off the road in 2014 as it was burning oil. Its turned out to be a much bigger rebuild and currently I am down to split cases! I know itll be great when its done, I cant wait. Youll get loads help here even if we cant all come round and lend a hand. As Sev said, someone will steal it if its in bits as they will haggle you down. You'll make it work if you really want it
I know what you mean I miss my SS I loved that bike and a controlling ex wouldn't let me buy her back and repair with the forums help I feel lost without one but I will yes WILL have another at some point There is something special about owning one
I know where there is one, Viv...........and enough spares with it so if you fall off again (sorry, get knocked off again), you can repair it easily....... You must be mad, Si, thinking of disposing of a bike like that........
Your decision. I feel for you. This is the first house I have ever lived in where I had the space and resource to tackle a rebuild. It is not easy! On the up side, you win if you sell or if you keep. Prices are on the up. Also... it's easier to store in boxes!
