Hi All Been looking for a project for a little while now and can't seem to see anything that's not silly money. Been reading Practical Sportsbikes and there seems bargains out there, but where? Tried eBay and gumtree but am I missing something? Or have bike prices shot up in the past 12 months since the PS lot bought there bikes? Ta
Ahh thanks for that, a bit slow on the uptake. If you DO want to see my shed (garage) head over to my YouTube channel (Mr Faffington - YouTube
Arggh, right oh. Not really my thing fella. Each to his own and all that i suppose. Im on a diet also, so a packet of werthers is not my scene either. Still, it's a compliment to be approached they say. Wanna come back to my shed is a new line for me!
ive got a 748 frame and 853 sps engine sat on my garage floor!! that would make a good start to a project!!
Think there are options for a lot of projects out there. Guess it really depends on what type of build you fancy doing. From Scratch, From a bitsa-bike, semi-finished project, non-runner, strip-down/refurb/rebuild. I'd agree that prices have gone up. I see there is a '03 748s for sale on ebay at 6k..... I paid £9200 for mine in Nov 2002... Personally, I'd love to build a 888 from scratch but I think I'd need to sell my spare body parts to afford that!! Good luck.
I built a track\road bike by buying a full rolling chassis from a race bike and then purchasing a 748R engine. The rest of the bits to make it into a full roadworthy bike I had as spares, headlamp, indicators, mirrors etc. Total cost under £3600 plus the cost of having the fuelling set up up by CJS. A terrific bike and the one that I use the most. Bikes are out there but you just need to search around. I have also just finished an RD250 LC project and a Suzuki RGV 250 VJ22 track bike. The most costly were parts for the Suzuki about twice that of building the LC. LC prices are rising though with many bikes coming in from Germany now.
I guess what i'm after is something that has been put away and left neglected/unloved for X years. That way if i don't know the bike at least i'll know what should be there. Only exception to that would be a SRAD or 748/9*6/8 as I have working ones of those already so would have a pattern to follow so could build one of them from the ground up but don't want another SRAD. Either that or some sort of Ducati would be ideal so i could pester you lot . I don't want to be making any money out of it, but don't want to be losing heaps either, ideally. Was just wondering if there was an untapped source I didn't know about or just keep watching eBay or is it normally a mates>mates has one?
1 man's cheap is another man's wife going mental [emoji6] . Depends really, guess I'm after one that slips through eBay unnoticed, but ain't we all??? I thought you were working in it? When/if you decide to sell PM me and I'll see what mood the wife is in [emoji106] [emoji107] [emoji106] [emoji107] [emoji106]
You could try insurance salvage websites , I've had 4 projects the current one not been the luckiest but I've had a Guzzi last year and that was a breeze
Have you decided what type of bike your looking for? I big powered mother, something smaller to flick around without a full leather set or something vintage? I had a dream, a full set of Zed's, I have a Z200, I gone so far just needs fibre glass seat finishing and I set it as a flat tacker style, paint and side panels need painting and I do have specialist paints pearl white aerosols which would be great if your good at painting? As you can tell my dream is over so just my ducati to get pleasure from now......
