Hi, so after many years as a car driver, and one interesting toy in the garage already, I decided to take my bike test. And now, with that done, my first bike... and so I went with what I really liked the look of... an 848 Evo for my first bike. I realise it'll be a bit more extreme than the training bikes I've been on, but I'm not 21, and I've some experience with fast cars, the road and traffic in general. I've also a healthy respect for living and a realisation I'm not imortal. Pick up is Saturday, and it'll be a nervous ride home for me. I know its not the greatest time of year to be riding, but that's where I see the added bonus, as it's a lovely lovely bike to look at too.
Wow! Great first bike, go careful they feel slow but they really aren't!!! It's a twin cylinder deception thing!
I love the 848 but I have nearly 40 years of riding bikes under my belt. Be careful out there and forget all the car experience. It takes about 6 months to be an average competent car driver, but about 3 to 5 years to be the same on a bike. The 848 is a very satisfying bike to ride.
Welcome Dave and like has already been said, take it easy. Riding a bike is very different to driving a car. I'm sure you have driven places in your car and when you've arrived you cannot remember any of the journey. You can't afford to do that on a bike.
Remembering the journey is part of the' iam' training. Worth considering for the next level. They don't all wear yellow vests and ride slower than 30mph. ..........trust me!
Welcome. This my second hello today to someone who has bought an 848 just after passing their test. Seems times have changed since I celebrated my pass with an MZ 250....
Thanks All. Plenty of caution to apply, and really appreciate the tips. I picked it up yesterday, and my first ride back was memorable probably more for the horrible weather. Very windy, wet and dark. Still we got back in one piece, and it was nice learn about some of the eccentricities (lumpy at low revs, ie. at 20mph and easy to stall, engine braking - like wow). I spent this morning giving it a good wash, since it was really quite muddy from yesterday. Loving how it looks, but really want some nice weather to go ride in.
