999 Hows Yours Doing?

  1. Serviced my 05 999 this week. Belts(thanks Dan) and oil/filter.
32,000 miles on the clock. Never missed a beat. Starts on the button.
I'm always get a bit nervous about what I'll find in the deep sump strainer filter. Yet again no swarth.
    Very happy.

  2. Happy to hear that. I am close to 15000 miles and still goes like a house on fire.
How many times did you have to change the dry-clutch over those 32000 miles?

  3. On my 2nd but i juggle them about and get max out of them with extra plains. Quiet clutch mod using newfren friction plates that always stick together when bikes laid up for a few months.

  4. Almost fettled back to good condition. New belts, new rear spring and shock serviced, co and idle set, fuelling set to match exhaust, a good clean with my toothbrush.

To do, front forks, tyres, front brake pads.

Ooo, rear pads done, rear linkages all removed and re greased. Mirrors replaced. New clutch plates, no more rattling clutch with new plates, no clutch mod needed yet.

  5. Just had my 04 999S serviced at 14800 miles, new clutch fitted, feels much smoother and quieter, mech tells me typical life span with non aggressive riding is @15000 miles.

  6. I've also used a Newfren clutch plate kit. I figure at £60.00 or so I don't mind replacing it every once in a while if it means the clutch isn't rattling itself to smithereens.

  7. My 03 S-model is still great after 44k miles.

In for a service now, so perhaps I shouldn't have posted here yet.

  8. @12k.
New discs and a brake service before it goes back on the road this season. Leaving the belts until later in the season. Last done at 4400 two years ago. Hoping to be back to 5000mls this year.

  10. just started the major service today, belts clearances etc, taken a little longer than I thought it would, not helping that its pretty cold in the workshop and I'm spending more time drinking coffee lol, clearances all checked and not one out of tolerance, saying that theres 2 inlets that's coming near but considering I do 2k max per year ive decided to leave them this time, get the oil/ belts/ plugs etc over the next few nyts, fairly enjoying doing it tbh,

ive added a photo of my belt gauge which I used on my old 916 and just found that it cant be used due to the room needed on the testastretta, photos from today when I tried it on belt but just wont go all the way on to use it properly, this gauge is perfect on all the 2valve 3valve and 4valve up to 996 model, its in first class condition other than sticker, clean and looked after
£110 + post if anyones interested, not to bothered if it sells or not tbh but its a nice wee tool for spmeone that can use it

  12. I've stripped mine this winter and rebuilt it for track only use this year. Had problems with my track fairings so going to use and old set for the moment.

New Ohlin forks and M4 Brembo's still to fit.

  15. Without warning mine spewed its main bearings at about 15k.

  16. Ouch :/

  17. How'a my 999 doing?
Could be better, apparently. My garagiste phoned me this morning to tell me that he had dropped it - at standstill. He told me that it's the first bike he has dropped in the last 20 years. Broken screen, top of fairing (the lowers weren't on), maybe a couple of other bits and bobs. He was pretty annoyed about it. I wasn't.
Out of sight, out of mind. I wasn't there when it happened, and I'll never see the damage as he will repair it all at his expense (obviously).
I feel a lot sorrier for him than for me. A bit of a pisser, when you've had the bike over winter, done a big service, changed rear tyre and about to fit a new battery and then, a couple of days before you hand it back to the customer (me) you drop it. Bummer.

  18. Thats tough, facelift fairings parts pretty rare especially in black.

  19. I expect he'll organise it one way or another. He's a resourceful bloke with very good Ducati connections.
Only thing I may lose are my Gliddofglood stickers on the screen which XxAnthxX did for me. Fortunately he did a few different ones and I still have the envelope which contains others that I haven't yet used. Looks as if I will be doing so. My garagiste thought that the screen was made by the famous Gliddofglood company...

  20. Once the repairs are done ... you'll have the mechanic killed, right?
