848 What Slipper Clutch To Get For My 848 Evo?

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by Darren4, Feb 28, 2016.

  1. Im looking to get an slipper clutch for my 848 EVO but with so many makes on the market what's the best one to go with?

The makes I'm looking at are Ducati's own DP slipper clutch, Sigma, EVR and Ducabike.

What have you guys and girls got on your bikes and what's your views on them.

Also would you recommend new clutch plates with the new slipper clutch as read that you can put the old clutch plates in the new slipper but this doesnt sound great practice to me but if it's perfectly acceptable it will save me £80-90 or as I see it an Oberon slave cylinder ;)

Any advice, thoughts and opinions would be gratefully appreciated.

    Darren

  2. Sigma for me. I've fitted several into customer bikes and had no issues with any of them. They do exactly what they say on the tin. Unless the plates are worn, then there's no need to fit new for the sake of it.

  3. Thanks Nelly for your fast reply, with your experience and knowledge (read a lot of your threads) I would be stupid to dismiss your advice.
The two main clutches I was looking at was the Sigma and the Ducati DP so you have pretty much made my mind up for me and it will be an Oberon slave cylinder over clutch plates as they are pretty new.
How easy is it to do for the diy'er, I'm pretty handy with the spanners but would I need any specialist tools?

  4. Sigma :upyeah:
The one I had came with a CD with instructions.

  5. no worries. A clutch holding tool is a must, but other than that a decent tool kit should be all you need.

  6. Have a look at ebay item no. 262301092799

Bought one myself the other week from seller not fitted yet.

  7. Yeah I did come across that, that is why I was thinking between the DP and the sigma.
Nelly, is the sigma £260 better than the DP slipper, guessing you have come accross both in your dealership.

  8. Jeepers! I'd be buying the DP one...

  9. I don't mind paying the money for the sigma if it will last twice as long and is that much better build quality but if the DP one will do just as good job I would be stupid to pay £260 more for the sigma.
I think that's where I'm at right now, I'm not sure which way to go as do value Nelly's opinion working with Ducati's day in day out.

  10. How much is a dp one?

  11. Around £410 delivered compared to around £670 for the sigma one.

  12. That's a good price! I'm sure when I looked at the dealers it was over £800. Where is that from?

  13. Sigma. Best there is.

  14. Sigma is very good, but that's a very good price for the DP unit! I don't have the prices of either to hand, but 260 quid is a lot. I'd put the DP one in if that's the difference and buy a quick shifter with the change :)

  15. Am I losing the plot ? 848 has a wet non slipper clutch as standard although the DP slipper clutch is dry ? Have to say I've never seen a clutch with 5 posts/springs and the picture of the kit on the Ducati web site is definitely 6. Andy

  16. DP do a wetty for the 848.

  17. Already got the quickshifter so looks like it's a DP slipper for me and got to think of something else to spend the £260 on haha

  18. Cant say I've used a DP one, but the suzuki one I had was terrible, the simgma allowed me to just drop 3 gears in one go and dump the clutch
