Lighter wheels - worth it?

  1. Looks like a MTS1000 wheel......the mags usually have 8 holes for locating on the rear hub. The MTS wheel lost the ribs. Mags usually have a small web at the base of the spokes as well where they run into the centre.

  2. ........................or a S4R :rolleyes::biggrin:

  3. Thanks Nelly... Should go on 916 hub/swinger?

  4. Hmmm actually you're right Nelly, mine had 8 holes plus the spokes look slightly angular it's the only way I can describe them the mags were a lot squarer a design

  5. Sorry to be silly but am I the only one who were thinking about the end of the fast straight when I read 'breaking very late. . . ' ??

  6. Yep. Straight forward fit.

  7. :upyeah:

  8. I had BSTs on my 1098 and experience as follows:
    Bike feels quicker
    On hard braking I always got a chatter from the front. Never fiddled with the suspension I imagine it was curable (perhaps less rebound damping or compression). I finally sold them.
    Lighter and more agile although compared to the 916 I had already the stock bike is lighter.
    Cost in 2009 was EUR2500 as a special price from local dealer. I think they still go for that much.

    Just a thought (if the carbon wheels price is high which it is). Why not change your flywheel to sth lighter? It gives plenty of 'acceleration', it costs maybe 10-15% of a pair of BSTs value but OK you dont get the overall weight reduction you get from a pair of BSTs (I think around 5-6Kgs to stock rims). However on a 916 weighing ..190Kg+ dry even with carbon wheels you still have a heavy bike for the track.

  9. Dymag have a great offer on at the moment but I seem to recall that you can't use standard sprockets.
    Does anyone know if the BSTs are the same?

  10. Some for sale on this very forum

  11. Bought this bad boy (ebay bargain) need a front now, or powder coat....:rolleyes:
    Should have weighed them both prior to fitting.. Anyone know the actual weight difference between the 3 and 5 spokers?
