1199 1199s Or 1199r

  1. Looking to get a new bike and heart wants the 1199R but head says 1199S.

I've had the base 1199 but now looking to get the ohlins etc, interested to get the R owners opinions and thinking residual will be better on the R.

  2. I don't own either mate but I go with the R all day long.

  3. The recent increase in the number of forum members who own the 1098R, including myself, has prompted some interesting (to me) conversation. The 1098R is the bike Ducati released to homologate the WSB factory bike at the 1198.something cc capacity for twin cylinders. The 1198R is an evolution of the 1098R and for some, a lesser animal because it is more refined. The 1198R and the latest 1299R don't seem to be retaining the sort of residuals the 1098R is now commanding although I for one haven't fathomed out why. Andy

  4. Oh yes, I forgot to answer your question, my 1098R is the shoutiest, bitiest and most mental bike I have ridden in 46 years. Andy

  5. Go with your heart every single time

  6. Buying or riding a bike isnt a rational thing... So forget your head and go for your heart!

  7. The 1199R will never be as exclusive as the previous 'R' models such as the 999R and 1098R as the 1199R isn't a limited number production model. I know I'm not answering the question but if you want an 1199 that's going to be a rarity and hold its value then in my opinion the best option would be an 1199 Tricolore .

  8. I agree with Big M. I've always thought he was a very wise man but then again that's probably because I've got a Tricolore. In my opinion it's the best looking Panigale any of them.

  9. Thanks for the replies, i understand on the R not being so exclusive.

  10. 2015/16 R would be the one to go for it you really wanted an R other wise the 13/14 R was a bit mah

Forget residuals on any mass produced bike.

  11. Any reasons not to get a 1299??
Hang around a couple of years and i'll sell you my 1199s if you want :grinning:

  12. No point in buying an S if you want an R, you will always wish you did. I don't regret buying the R for one minute.

  13. when I bought my 1199 s the dealer put me off buying the 1199r said no way worth the extra 6/7 k what ever it was, stick with the base upgrade suspension etc if you want something a bit different, the S suspension to me is crap, far to stiff loads had it reworked,

  14. Not as exclusive perhaps...but not exactly common.
How many 1199Rs or Panigale Rs have you seen?
    I've seen one...and it's mine. That's it.
The same can't be said for Ss.

  15. Whereas mine knew I was going to want the Ti exhaust at £3500, then add loads of carbon and a few other bits that the R comes standard with...so suggested I buy the one with it all done and be done with it.
I knew that if I bought a 1199S/1299S every day I looked at it I'd wish it said R on the side.

  16. yes well if you knew u were going 3500 exhaust straight away prob works out as cheap but I knew I wasn't going that route, 1299 r is the one to have tho looks mint.

  17. At the ace cafe last Sunday there were 2 tricolore's, a 2016 'R' and a plain old 1199 abs ( mine ). They all looked good. I would say go with your heart, followed by your wallet. !!!!

  18. If u are going to go for a panigale r it may be worth sticking your wedge down on the newest one, it's supposed to be a big improvement according to all the reviews, lighter, has manual Ohlins and is easier to ride fast. Btw it's still a 1199cc, not sure why people call it the '1299r' but anyway, I think it will hold its value better than the earlier r because it might be the best of the panigale other than the superlegerra

  19. It was said earlier that the R isn't worth the extra 6-7k more than the S. I agree in part with this from a point of the view that the majority of riders (including me) will never be able to exploit the extra poke it gets from the lightweight engine components, so why bother?. But as Ducati owners we all know that logic and sensibility never come into the equation when choosing a bike or we'd all the on the fireblade forum discussing the 2016 sticker designs. Put the S and the R side by side and the R with its full exhaust system, bare aluminium tank and carbon fibre everything really does look outstanding. We're now seeing used 1199R's sub 20K. I think that if you're in two minds and you can afford it then buy the R as if you buy the S, as much as you'll love it you'll always be wondering about the R. One thing I found though when looking for insurance, and this may just be my own personal experience, but the R was horrendously expensive to insure compared to the S. This swayed me to buy an S. However after falling in love with the looks of the R but not being bothered about the titanium engine bits I managed to find a set of R fairings and a tank which cost me £200 after I'd sold the fairings and tank from my S.

  20. Well after many considerations and silly insurance quotes for the R, i have now done a deal on a 14 plate S with some nice extra's.

Hopefully i will not regret this in months to come but with a 6-7k difference i think i have made the right decision.

Now got to wait 10 days to collect.
