Looking for people's advice and experience. I currently have Alpinestars 2 piece leathers but they are starting to get a bit tight. So I've decided on new Dainese but can't decide on 1 piece or 2. What's your experience with both for road use only?
IMO a two piece is more practical when not on the bike as you can shuck the jacket when you're drinking your tea or coffee or chewing the fat in the car park looking at the bikes. It also scores when you are not a standard shape as you can mix and match jacket to trousers. Not sure there is any difference in safety so long as the suit is good quality. I use a Dainese two piece for both road and track. Andy
I have both in Dianese. if I am going somewhere like an air show or race meeting then I wear a 2 piece. Long aimless blasts a 1 piece. I've just bought a new pair of Dianese bottoms after trying several other makes. With short inside leg and the belly being disproportionately large they were the only ones that fit. Trouble is they are a lot dearer than the other makes
For road use only I would go 2 piece but also would look at a slightly less race focussed cut, so perhaps the Dianese Laguna stuff which is ever so slightly less race orientated but also has a foil liner etc for warmth on colder evenings.
To be honest I only use the bike for the thrill of being out. I don't really go anywhere and socialise ect. Decisions decisions
Still though, worth considering a less race fitted cut, I don't mean baggy as leather should never be loose, just a jacket and trouser that allow u to feel slightly more comfortable and have bigger pockets and the warm liner. Leather is still better than textile regardless of how superb the top of the range textile is.
Stopping for a piss in a one piece is a pain in the arse. Most modern two piece suits are well enough zipped together so that they're just as safe as a one piece, but with all the benefits of being able to take the jacket off if you stop somewhere in the summer. I use an Alpinestars motegi 2 piece for the road, and a Dainese Laguna Seca 1 piece for the track - although I need to lose some weight before it fits again
I have a dainese aspide suit in both a one piece and a two piece. 2 piece gets very little, if any, use. Riding / use of the kind you describe. I find the one piece so much more comfortable. And in Scotland I wouldn't bother with a perforated suit. Ever. No.1 in an aspide is no problem. No.2, as you note, really is a whole different ball game.
Tried on lots of suits today, prefer one piece to be honest. Dainese kangaroo one was amazing!!!! So light weight, soft leather and fitted me perfect!!! A lot of cash tho so taking the weekend to think it over! Slightly worried about it being perforated. My friend has an alpinestars perforated suit and says it's ok in summer but at the start and end of the season he wears a wind proof jacket over it.
If i was going for a new 1 piece then i'd be considering this one! Pick them up from around the £750 mark now
ive got one o those. to be honest its not my first choice to wear even though its the newest.i have to put the sliders as high as you can as the hard plastic armour on the knees scrapes as well. and the material on the back of the neck rubs after a full day out or track day. looks great and fits really well when you first put it on ,but i always go back to my daiese suits
It's the Dainese trickster I tried on. It felt like sliding into an old pair of slippers.... That's how well it fitted!!
