Well, finally picked the bike up on saturday morning. Weather forecast was dry all day. Pulled onto the motorway for the 12 miles or so ride home and the heavens opened! Brand new supercorsa tyre, new bike to me and a very busy motorway, not ideal lol. Got home in one piece, quick wash down and put her away. Sunday a few of us got out for the afternoon and had a nice ride out. The clutch, i think thats what it is, seems to make a noise, similar to a chain slipping, when I took off sharpish a couple of times. Is that normal as I have never had a dry clutch bike before. Also, is black clutch fluid an issue, i was assured its normal for ducatis. Finally, i really need to get a double bubble screen ordered as I simply cannot tuck under the standard clear jobby plus i think it lets the style of the bike down. Anyone have any pics please? Thanks for yours sirich. Looking on ebay etc there are dozens to choose from. I found myself with a numb right butt cheek when I got home, the seat is similar to a plank of wood but I cannot see myself forking out £250 for a sargent seat. Any cheaper options out there? Welcome Clutch clatter is normal and it will seduce you into lovin' it... No really it will...:biggrin: Black clutch fluid is also normal also, although can be reduced by greasing the end of the push rod. No need really unless it really bugs you. There is a DP (Ducati Performance) seat available. I don't recall how much from Ducati, but they do pop up on eblag - worthy upgrade IMO.
Thanks Nelson. I am told, last night, a company in hyde are quite good for a seat upgrade, gel inserts and custom graphics etc. I will keep my eye on ebay just in case though. I have purchased a couple of sealey rps3 single sided paddock stands last week. The ducati pins i ordered are too small at 22mm. I measured the nearside axle hole and its 40mm, offside 42mm 08 bike. Question is, there is only 20mm of pin that will actually go into the wheel axle hole on the ducati pins supplied, is that really enough? I am having the 40mm ones made so can have them longer if needed. Thanks, Phil

Yes thats the one nelson. The 22mm is the end away from the threaded hole end. I am puzzled now as I realise what you are saying but only imagined it going in at the far end and not the shoulder too. Sorry, bit confusing lol.
Thanks again nelson. So basically, the end of the pin being 22mm is not critical for the first 20mm, its the actual shoulder that butts up to the bike stand thats the critical bit at 40mm? Looking on google, some appear to be 40mm all the way. Just need to be sure before I have one machined. As long as I keep the diameter correct for slotting in the bike stand bearings, the rest can be 40mm all the way? Sorry to be a pain, I appreciate your assistance.
Yup - sounds about right. I think the smaller end simply acts as an initial guide for the longer shaft (oooo matron) the bit after the shoulder needs to be more accurate as this is what the bike sits on.
The 1098 'ole/pin is a bigger than the 848 and earlier 916 stylie bikes. Quite common for stand manufactures to just list a "Ducati" pin. Hope you get it sorted...
My local machine shop machined up x2 40mm pins for my bike and one for my mates. I slotted it into the nearside axle and lifted her up. She leans to the right for some reason! Is it normal to have a lean with a single sided swingarm stand? The 40mm is a good fit and they were made to be the same length as the OE ones.
Not tried his yet Nelson. He has not had chance. I am thinking maybe my stand is slightly twisted as I can't understand why else it would lean.
Sounds like an elephant might have sat on a bike while it was on it a previous life. Mine looks fairly straight.....well straight enough for me not to notice any leaning.
