Fairing off last night, looks like a tab is broken to me where they connected underneath. Thing I'd though, the manual says it should only have 1 fastener there anyway.
Definitely need two fixings minimum. Depending on the condition of the rest of the fairing I think I would put a non-standard hole in the left-hand one and then run an aluminium tie plate across just like the belt SS/851/888 had.
V5/DVLA say yellow. I'm told it came from the dealer new with a paint job (like they do), but the original owner had it resprayed to the current FILA as wanted something different. I think he got a deal as it is a 03MY (frame/engine numbers) but an 05 reg so they probably wanted it out the showroom as grey swing arm. I've just sent the V5 off to get it in my name so put a change of colour on it to grey. I'm undecided what to do at the moment. I may take to a SMART repair and get the paintwork tidied up as I think the grey FILA looks OK, or might get it resprayed the original yellow so it is authentic or might get it resprayed anniversary red as red sells better than yellow............. Or I might buy a compressor and do it myself as all 3 bikes need something spraying.
CR you could araldite a alloy plate on that. Bit of red paint if youre fussy. Jobs a goodun. Heres a pic of SS stylee under fairing plate. 2 wellnuts 5mm thread.
Interesting, my 748 has been fastened with two dzus fasteners at the bottom of the fairing for many years trouble free, flat head and well greased they never give a problem. Steve I would think them well nuts would be more trouble with a bit of corrosion.
i had a look an hour ago but nothing showing a mod to a 999/749 - it's just a simple plate that houses two wellnuts :- NEW DUCATI 82710121A HALF FAIRING PLATE | eBay EDIT - Keith beat me to a picture anyhow :smileys:
I use a short m6 bolt with a nylock nut with a large washer to bolt the bottom of the fairings together. Bolted from the outside in. I've heard that the 749/999 can turn into a jet fighter and the fairings can get airbourne at speed if the dzus fails or works loose. Didn't fancy that.
I use stainless screws with a bit of grease. The wellnut inserts are a brassy material so dont bind to the stainless. Ive lost a couple of dzus over the years.
