999 Radiator Hoses

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Cream_Revenge, Mar 10, 2016.

  1. Hey

Took my new to me 999 to bits last night and the coolant pipes are really soft. The one on the left coming out from under the rad is virtually flat too. I assume that means they could do with replacement. Funny that my GSXR and 996 which are both older and more miles have nice firm pipes.

    anyone tried these?

  2. I wanted to replace on one of my hoses and was tempted by these but managed to source just the part i needed. I know that a set of samco hoses are about double that price so these could be bargin!

  3. Made in and posted from China. IMO there is no substitute for the quality of Samco in the aftermarket place if you are not going for OE replacement. I'm sorry for being old and cynical but you only get what you pay for and IMO you are unlikely to get a quality product for £20. Andy

  4. I've just fitted a set on the 924 motor. They came from a uk seller. The fit is good but not quite perfect. But for £22. You can't moan. image.jpeg
However. The two short rad hoses were 25mm od rather than id. I dropped them an email and got a quick reply followed by a meter length of correct size hose. :)
One thing to note though. The kit doesn't include the bleed pipe from the rear head - rad.

  5. This is my current pipes, the one from the top left of rad looks squished.

And this one I can squeeze quite a lot.

    Do they need replacing?

Samco are obviously better quality but it's a massive price difference.......

  6. That's the one that went on mine too. I replaced with OE though. Was only around £10 from main dealer. Fidderly little f@&ker to fit.

  7. The link to the kit you posted on the thread is for the early style rad.

  8. The one I'm squeezing or the flat one?

  9. This is an 03MY so should be right?

  10. I went with these for my 998. Half price of samco.

  11. Really? Skimping on a 998? I can understand it on a 999, but a 998!

  12. Haha, don't quite see it like that. I was talking with the mechanics at work and that said they'd use them so long as they were silicon, on their race machines.
You're just paying for the name with samco.

  13. So silicon is the puppy, thx.

  14. Those 1st ones I posted are silicon.

  15. Don't think you'd go far wrong with any of them TBH. I did think about the cheap Chinese one's, but thought the ones I got were a good compromise between them and the samco jobs.

  16. you pay more not to have the name with samco.... in fact they will do hoses in any color (white in my case) but they have their logo in big arse blue writing on em,, if i had of asked (if i had known to) they could have made em with the logo imprinted but with no color.. but they will not sell em without the their logo on em

  17. The flat one. It kinda swelled around the lower part and leaked at the bottom. Had to loosen the rad to fit it as it's mega tight in there. Maybe a common one to go?

  18. There is a theory that silicone hoses allow better coolant flow as they are more "slippery" inside and present no restriction to flow.

Can't say I have noticed, but I have bought a few sets of silicone hoses from Hose Solutions and they have been perfect.

  19. I have a feeling that Samco also manufacture under license, the Silicon hoses for Ducati Corse. Agreed though, you can't go wrong with Samco quality.

  20. Did you get the rolled edge house clamps or using standard?

Edit: I should have looked closer at the photo. I see that using some kind of self-locking clamp.
