Polish/waxing Artic White?

  1. New owner of used 899 here, unsure whether artic white paintwork should be polished/waxed? Many for and against on various threads I have read. I am used to spending hours pedantically detailing cars and bikes so not doing this seems not normal.

    Also what are peoples thoughts on paint protection film for the artic white? My bike is currently chip free with 3000 miles on the clock which I have never seen on even on the best kept of bikes..does the white stone chip easily and should I protect it?

  3. Had my red 899 paint protected by Tony Hill at Tony James Designs, I'm reliably informed that they do a Matt version of the film image.png
     
  4. On the matte/satin paints I use Motul Matte Surface cleaner. You don't want polish and you don't want to rub the paint surface anymore than you have to. Let the product do the work and lightly wipe away.
    Scholl Concepts also do a decent product.. No Gloss polish.

    Hi i used matte detaier i got it from chemical guys it cleans and protects its £14 a bottle but does a great job
     
  6. Just had my white 899 PPF by Tony hill. Great job. Can't see film unless really close up. Also use chemical guys Matt shampoo (smells like bubble gum) and their Matt detailing spray as an extra protective layer. All good.

  7. I have an 899 with ventureshield fitted. I have been into detailing for a good number of years and im going to remove the film. My bike is white and i think it really spoils the bike being made up of loads of different parts. My mate has a car wrapping business and i have been chatting to him with regards to doing the bike in large parts, like he does his cars. He prides himself on doing cars in large 1 piece parts. I get that it protects, but they look so much better when you couldnt see it.
     
  8. If you can accept not having mint paintwork then crack on and remove it.

    Mine came with Ventureshield and it's looking a bit tired now. I'm going to get another fresh set put on, the amount of marks on it makes me happy it's there.

  9. I want to have mint paint, it may be that mine is just a bit tired also. Just think large parts would look a lot better.

    Turns to rubber protecting your paint and doesnt look like a jigsaw puzzle.
     
  10. Car panels can take large pieces of ventureshield as they don't have all the nooks and crannies that bikes do. Bikes need many small pieces to cover them because of that.

    I get what your saying, it will be a lot harder to do. I just think personally it ruins my bike look and want to get a better solution.
     
  12. Hasn't anybody considered having the white panigale properly clear coated by a professional painter?

    I appreciate it'd add a gloss finish, but it also seems to me that it'd be easier to protect and polish

    Surely a surface prep and couple of layers of clear coat aren't going to cost the earth
     
  13. In places it's very hard to define where it starts and where it ends. The front facing part of it hasn't faired as well, the leading edges of the side cowling and nose have all got thin lines of dirt on places.

    I know mine was installed by a specialist by the previous owner, perhaps yours was a DIY job? All I know is that I'm happy to have it replaced in areas that need improving.
     
  14. My bike was done by a specialist. Like you say the front is not so bad as its harder to see.
    I might just leave the larger forwad facing parts on and remove the smaller parts and coat them in unc-r.
