I thought I had, the filter doesn't tighten up it just sticks to the casing making it difficult to remove. If you think they tighten up then mark one and check to see if it moves.
had the same sort of problem myself housing on the filter turning but not undoing made my own tool inspired by the pics on here by I think duke desmo also made a mess in the process trying different ways first lol
FFS........It's been posted on this forum enough times............fit a K&N filter and don't overtighten it..............lube the seal before fitting and fill the filter as well before it is fitted.........
to be honest I used a genuine ducati filter at the time to replace with have used a rubber strap wrench thing to replace since works a treat did consider a k&n filter with the piece for a socket but have heard of the piece snapping off probably been overtightened lol did think of buying the proper tool the cup type one but heard of the filter collapsing but hey ho
I'm not clear what you mean but just for clarity, don't use a strap wrench to tighten the filter. You literally put the oil filter on finger tight.
K&N clearly state on the fitting instructions for the KN-153 filter (fits most Ducatis if not all); screw the filter on by hand until the seal makes contact and then turn another 7/8 of a turn..........obviously that can be done by hand or by a socket wrench.
I do find that the nut on the K&N filters sometimes round off (soft, pressed mild steel) when undoing them so have needed to get vice grips on them before but at least I've not had one break yet...
sorry must have been half awake when wrote that lol use the strap wrench to undoe hands to do up hah hah
Hmmmm....any idea what this is equivalent to in Nm? I ask cos I fitted a K&N to my 996 only last night about 8 o'clock but I went with the Haynes recommendation of 17 Nm and am now wondering if it's too tight. I filled the filter and lubed the seal before fitting. The filter I was replacing was K&N and I think I did the same last time, i.e. 17 newts rather than hand tight + 3/4..1 turn more. It came off ok.
I seem to remember doing the same on my GSXR a few years back, came off easy after being on for more than a year.
Amused me to see the OP for criticising himself for buying a cheap filter............. .......shows a photo of the wreckage...................but.............. .......doesn't mention buying cheap pliers as well................
