Looks like my old one... that's not NLB 489P? Memories from 1979, ahhhh Will you ride it? bet it will feel really shit, not how we remembered them as really fast sweet handling...
I had a FS1E when I was 16, brilliant fun and great memories!! That one looks a minter!! [emoji106] Happy Birthday ! [emoji3]
Left my bike dirty for a week in the garage , had to clean quite a lot of corrosion off the fecker today , is it me or are disks just made of cheaper metal nowadays , they were almost orange
I always used to ride 12 months of the year (for years I did my shopping with a rucksack:weary. Then I had the funds to own a car and bike, so wet/winter weather travel was removed from the equation. My first brand new bike was a YZF1000 Thunder Ace ('98), ran it in through dry days in April, went into the garage a week later... covered in fur:Bawling:. In April '99 I had a new R1, this time I washed it thoroughly before drying with compressor. Looked great until I took the tank off to fit a dyno-jet kit (remember those?), fur over all the internal brackets:Bawling:. So now I only ride when the last salt of the year has been thoroughly rained away (so mid/late April for me in the Peaks). Okay, I'm a pussy/woos/lightweight but I can't afford a new bike every couple of years and I simply hate salt damage!!! ps I did ask DMC about PCP where I could ride all year then swap for new every 3 years. I mentioned salt corrosion and they said it would affect the trade-in/final payment... I think I'm going to go for the winter-hack option, more money then
most of my mates had Fizzy's we were amazed as it was the first moped to have a disc brake! myself I had a Garelli Tiger Cross then a Fantic Caballero those were the days!
I tend to treat all my bikes like you would a winter hack. I'll ride it through all weathers and if it's found lacking, I lose all sympathy for it and I'll be looking at what's next. If we mollycoddle out bikes, they'll continue to build this image that they'll disappear like the wicked witch at the first sign of water. They shouldn't do, and if they do then their shit and the manufacturer should be held accountable. Do you see a sub crew using a compressor to dry it after each ride? No, it's build to perform a function and do so under a range of conditions, not just one!
No way! Gilera trial,Fantic Cabellero or super six and Garelli record were the peds to own! FS 1E's were for the masses - boringly reliable too! I used to love having to carry a plug spanner and a wire brush around all the time
Lovely lovely lovely - there was a mad stunter called Arto Niqoius (prob spelt wrong?) who wheelied one of those beyond the point of return and always smashed the back light. His show stopper was jamming the throttle open and jumping off the back with wooden Dutch clogs on - they would smoke like crazy when he screamed past! Proper loon
guy I bought mine from had one of those in the stable and a Fantic but I had a fs1e when i was young and hot so thats why I bought another
Those were the days eah.. I had an fs1e dx, disc brake! My mate had a garelli, I used to think he had the cooler bike, but he spent more time getting it to go, whilst I kept riding mine [emoji23]
Think I can remember that Christ knows how he managed to wheelie one, it's massive and super heavy, compared to bikes of today
Most of my mates had FS1E's apart from Nigel! Not only did his parents give him a name that would forever expose him to ridicule, pisstaking and bullying - they chose his moped without consultation or his input. On his 16th birthday he became the not very proud owner of a 4th hand turd brown Honda SS 50 - the uncoolest ped in town! The worst thing about it was his parents had by far the most expensive, flashiest house for miles,Villa in Majorca,Dad drove a Jensen interceptor and an Aston V8 Vantage,Mum had one of those pretty little Merc SL 280 jobs with the dip in the roof etc - they were fukkin brewstered! On top of this his mother dressed him like a plonker and his dad always insisted he wore a tie at all times! Guess what - when they snuffed it he was only child and got left millions in early 1980's.Last time I bumped into him was at Royal Ascot Races in car park 1 (for the seriously rich only!) having a billy big bollocks picnic out of the back of a brand new Phantom and surrounded by top top totty! Glad to see he's working his way through all that poke
As I said I had the Fantic Cab before that an Orange SuperT then my best mate tried to out do me buying a Fantic GT we used to fill up for 52p he worked as a pump attendant at our local petrol station. I recently saw a Fantic 50cc Chopper parked up outside my local laundry a girl owned it! Notice the pedals so legally it was still a moped in those days!
I remember my mate had a Fantic Cabellero (he was about 6 months younger than the rest of us) and he always had real problems starting it from hot - we tried loads of different spark plugs, changed HT lead, coil - basically tried everything? What didn't help was the local Fantic dealer was a proper arsehole and once you took it you were on your own
