Oil Filter Not Screwing

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Cream_Revenge, Mar 13, 2016.

  1. to be fair, I think the OP bought the bike with the cheap filter already on it

  2. Yes, came with cheap filter, and pliers lasted a good 15 years.

  3. that's the second version lol
the first had 6mm bolts and they sheared because the filter was that tight
so second version is a bit more substantial
wasn't going to let a bloody filter win hah hah
and I always have it in case

  4. It was meant to be a joke.......

When I first got my SS, I removed the stuck filter with a pair of screwdrivers and a ring spannner..........awkward, but off it came.

    And then I fitted K&N.

  5. K&N delivered this morning :upyeah:

  6. Not American are you?
Snacks of American engineering that does...
Was the filter that stuck, stuck due to poor quality or poor fitting though?

  7. Who knows..........It wasn't an OEM one and if it was stuck, who can tell if it was overtight or not?

But....tell you what........I remember that after the stuck one; I did fit a new OEM one before I switched to K&N.........

........I fitted it all nicely, with a wipe of oil on the seal as per usual...............on a very hot summer day (even hotter in the workshop)..........All OK throughout the rest of the year until Winter.........and then it was very cold..............

..........started the bike and oil was peeing out of the filter immediately............turned it a bit tighter and it stopped for a while, but then I guess once it had got through, it just kept on dripping quite a lot............I now change filters when the weather isn't too hot.

  8. Just taken delivery of 4 litres of fully synth Motul 7100 plus a HiFlo filter for 40 quid from M&P. Seems like a pretty good deal if Hi Flo filters are any good.
    Anyone know??

  9. have been accused of over engineering things
but just used odd scraps at work to make that

  10. Have done a little research and Hi Flo filters would appear to be the same as K&N but without the nut.

  11. Serious bit of kit that... :)

  12. Who sells the Mahle filters?

  13. I get mine from Opie Oils.
    Steve

  14. That appears to be the same code as Opie and a better price.
I haven't purchased any for a couple of years now as I bought three oil and three fuel filters last time.

  15. Cheapskates......

You will fork out ££ss for a load of carbon shite and can't be bothered to clean your battery and earth lead connections........

.............but ....how often does anyone need to fit an oil filter to save £5.00 each time?

    Bunch of twits......:astonished:

  16. Yes, I'm sure that's the right one, the code and the measurements are right even if the proportions of the canister in the pic are wrong.
Annoyingly, the shipping costs from this company are actually more than the cost of the unit itself, as they put it in the over 0.7 kilo bracket. So the final costs end up very similar.

  18. Have changed the oil for lovely cherry red Motul 7100 fully synth.
At least it's easy to see the level in the sight glass now :)
The old filter came out nicely with a strap tool from Lidls and I was able to prime the system by turning the engine over with the stand down so it wouldn't fire.
No leaks, so I'm a happy bunny:)
