HI All I want to covert my 899 into a part time track bike, but still keep it as a road bike generally, so could do with picking your collective knowledge on disconnecting electronics etc. The general plan is to convert it to a full time track bike next year, and probably get a 1299 for the road for weekend blasts, but for this year, it'll be covering some track, but mainly road duties, so I want to be able easily interchange between road and track spec. I'm not going down the track fairing route this year, so the basic conversion for track days will be to remove the mirrors, tail tidy (with plate, lamp and indicators) and then just disconnect headlamps and rear light. However, i assume that if I just unplug the rear lights/indicators, I'm going to get warning lights on the dash, and the same for the headlamp. Is there end plugs I can buy so that the electrics still complete the circuit and not throw warnings ? Also, if I remove the mirrors, will I need a blanking plate for the connection ? I've not tried taking them off just yet, so unsure as to what the empty mount point will look like ? Same for the tail unit Cheers in advance for your help Graeme
If it was me bud all I'd do is change the pads for track pads get some proper track tyres and tweek the suspension, remove mirrors .
No need to unplug headlights and tail lights unless you plan to remove them. Get some crash protection.
I'm pretty certain you will get warning lights coming on cos the brake lights will be disconnected, as that happened to a mates bike all he did was take it to DMC who removed the problem not sure how but I'm will ask him on Tuesday at oulton park
Why do you want the headlights off? Why don't you just buy a pair of headlight protectors. I picked myself a cheap pair up off of ebay and had my mate paint them up and stuck them on with gorilla tape (so removable afterwards). They Weren't the best fit but did the job for me, don't need them no more as i've converted mine to a track bike. I know power bronze do the headlight protectors as well for £22.50 and might be a better fit than the cheapo ones i bought.
