1200 DVT So Called Heated Grips !!!

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Navara01, Oct 19, 2015.

  1. My heated grips are really poor. Before my awesome DVT I had a 2104 GT, even in the winter I could not have them on the high setting as they were just TOO hot. So why are my DVT ones rubbish !!!

  2. Take it back and demand a repair or renewal.

  3. Well you either drive in Antarctica or you need new gloves mate, or there is something wrong with the heated grips in your bike and you'll have to take it back to your dealer for inspection.
I was just driving yesterday in a cold day 7C on the motorway, my speed constantly between 170-230kph, I use the Dainese X-Strikes which I won't consider really winter gloves and just for a moment I used the MID level which I had to put it back to LOW because my hands were burning!
If the GT does heat the grips more than the DVT that's perhaps some of those weird German designs used to heat tea in the dessert during a real adventure trip - on which few people will ever endure :Bucktooth:

  4. What arihess said: there has to be something wrong with your grips.
Even at 160-180kph in the pouring rain with 3-season gloves, I haven't needed more than the Low setting. Those things are hot!

  5. Yep I concur. Mine are hot as a hot thing even on the low setting.

  6. Interesting. Mine are not great. I did hear that its a recognised issue and Ducati were working on it. I had mine on at the weekend which was not really cold and mid setting sufficed but in real winter I dont think they would be as effective as the old ones. No doubt we will find out shortly.

  7. Having used mine all this week I have to say mine are not that warm even on maximum, I couldn't even use maximum on my old 1200S.

I'll mention it to the dealer - did you get anywhere Navara?

  8. Mine failed day before yesterday (2012 Multi), both of them at the same time. Then yesterday morning I fired up the bike and the left one was working but not the right. I shut the bike down and restarted and neither was working.

Now I thought that the grips are wired in series and if one goes they both go, but yesterday only the left worked temporarily.

Bike booked in for further examination.

  9. My heated grips are great. Ride an R1200GS lc to you see what crap heated grips are like

  10. £200 for OE grips there a con, the stock heated grips are just cheap heater elements under the grips, there really is no need to pay £200. My bike came with the touring pack however i opted not to have the OE heated grips fitted as i don't like the feel, what I did is buy some daytona hot grips £49 and not only are they a nicer soft feel there not bulky like heated grips, wire (2 wire per grip) into the original connections down by the right/left side of the tank and got the dealer to activate and bingo toasty and much better.

  11. But this doesn't make sense. The oem Ducati grips are the same diameter as the stock non heated grips. You don't know anything about the oem grips so you can't claim they are "just cheap heater elements under the grips". They are in fact molded into the grips proper. The Daytona Hotgrips are fatter than the oem Ducati heated. So yea you've saved by going with the cheapos but everything you say about the oem is the exact opposite in reality
Also they are not a "con", they just cost more

  12. What does'nt make sense ! The fact OE are shite on the DVT the heating element is cheap and it's NOT MOULDED at all so who told you that ! the same elements can be brought for a couple of quid, if you roll your grip back you will see the element, the heater element is glued onto the plastic tube and the OE grip is on top (they use the same diameter throttle grip on the left bar) And you call that moulded into the grips proper i don't think so. I said Daytona are not bulky like heated grips, i was referring to aftermarket (should have been clearer) but what they are is hotter with a nicer feel to them all for £49 and they even plug into the OE loom and work better (see i do no something) unfortunately I'm not keen on the feel of the OE grips and I found the heaters not sufficient on my first Dvt so that's why I opted for something else on my second Dvt .

  13. Yes the element is a separate element but it is permanently adhered to the inside of the rubber grip (on my 2016 anyway) so as far as I can see they are inseparable and therefore part of the grip. On high they are way hotter than needed even on the coldest days. You may be making your assumptions on previous models. You're claiming they are shit and that that is a "fact" when it's really just your personal opinion, so you may "KNOW" something, but not everything

  14. my LC heated grips toast your hands on the lowest setting

  15. Every day is a school day brother [emoji6]

2016 multi dvt heated grips, roll your grip back and you will clearly see the heater element is not part of the grip at all, it's actually lightly adhered to the tube and peels off, the exact heater element I use for another job and there cheap as chips, what Ducati do is uses a throttle grip on the left bar and tbh its a really cheap way to produce heated grips.

Grip removed as you can see no heater element in there brother .

  16. Fitted heated grips to my 14 PP over the winter and just had them activated today with the service. Loving them:)

  17. And this is precisely what makes them better than the fat aftermarket cheapos. Nice factory grips, without compromize

  18. ;)
