  1. Hi guys

I may be about to have a meltdown. Please be genuine and don't joke.

Are 999 engines ok to look like this?

  2. looks a bit dodge mate.

  3. I know what you mean CR, I've looked at several 999's that have had rough as fuck castings, looks pretty ugly I agree, tis what it is I guess.

    It'll buff out - with a chainsaw ;)

  4. Till it starts leaking/blows up don't worry about it. Worst case scenario, it goes pop.. speaking from experience it will be cheaper to source a new 999 engine.

  5. So, looks bad, may be normal. Especially on a MY03?

Just ride it and if goes "pop" then shit happens.

I have seen no leaks but I've only had engine running for about 10 minutes in total since i bought the bike.

It does not help that everything I look at has been bodged by the previous spaner-man. 1 owner, 6k mls is not necessarily a good thing!

  6. Thanks, still might fill it with Q-bond and paint it.

  7. And then it will look even worse and you have to explain shit when you sell it

  9. You'll be fine mate. That would have been one hell of a bodge job and I'm no mechanic but I'm sure even the worst rouge traders cant just glue bits back together! Ha

I'm thinking it's just older Ducati quality control back in the day. As in, it functions but can still look a bit rough.

Why don't you swing it by a good Ducati mechanic and pay half hour labour to get an expert opinion. It'll be money well spent for the ability not to worry your bike will explode on every ride.

  10. Must have been cast on a Friday afternoon. When Guisseppe had been at the grappa during his 2 hour lunch. o_O

  11. The other good thing is that you can only see this with the fairing off, and most of the time, it won't be. Out of sight, out of mind, especially when a pro has confirmed that it's not an issue.

  12. Nah, the prototypes used engines from 998's with no Engine Number designations - the later pre production prototypes used engine numbers with 999 in the number even though they were 998's - production base models as you know use 998 in the engine number :Hilarious::Angelic:

  18. I'm shallow, as in the 999 is a MY03, so that is reassuring.

  20. Mines as rough as that. I asked my local main dealer if it had been opened and re sealed but he said no. Some cases are rough finished some aren't and there was nothing wrong with it. Like others have said, just live with it. If you try and tidy it up it may end up looking suspicious. This is what mine looks like. image.jpeg
