Hi guys, Just a quick question - I know that on the 899 there was a lot of heat on the inside of the right thigh when riding and a lot of people complained about it. I haven't managed to find any posts on the subject - what is the heat like on the new 959 with the exhausts at the side now instead of underneath? Any better?
I heard a bloke the other day saying he'd had a rash from the heat on his 899 I really don't see it myself. Not once have I noticed the heat. Not once.
The heat comes from the loop of exhaust under the seat, which is exactly the same from 899-959 The only difference is the extra restriction from the tailpipes/silencer that the 959 is fitted with, which could end up creating more heat I had a 959 to try for a couple of hours whilst my 899 was in for service, and to me they felt like they created a pretty similar amount of heat. It does get warm, but I've never noticed it being uncomfortably warm. You just need to live with having a sweaty arse on nice days
I'll be honest, I have Termi's on mine and have left the standard heat shield on the 'loop' under the seat, as changing it is a big no no from a heat perspective. I find mine absolutely fine, tbh I would say probably only 50-60% as bad as the 848 Evo was. I was sat in traffic last year with a mate on his 748 and he was fanning his legs and I was fine. I wear textiles, I do notice much more if I'm wearing Kevlar 'jeans' like when just popping to a mates, in proper bike gear it's fine. If u remove the standard metal shield on the loop, which u often need too go fit carbon shields, it does get really hot from what I've read
I am the new owner of a 959 today, and let me tell you it was very welcomed the heated seat :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:. All kidding a side I had a S1000RR and whilst it was a cracking bike this 959 has soul...i absolutely love with its excellent sound theme. If they can bear with it in Europe I'm sure we can easily cope
Thanks for the responses guys, glad to hear. Test riding a 959 this Saturday and if I like it I'll trade in the 600RR for it
