Track Tyres - Slicks Or Treaded? - Suppliers??

Discussion in 'Tyres' started by Pablo Pirate, Mar 19, 2016.

  1. Fairly new to trackdays and a few questions? Have seen a few posts but still unsure.

    Currently run SC1 & SC2 = Quality, however expensive.
Wanted to try slicks, one out of curiosity but also they seem the cheaper option.
Anyone using the Continental Race attack slick? Or new Metzeler Racetec rr slick?

I will be doing a few rounds in the NL novice and the control tyre is Metzeler, been told both stories use treaded tyres the BSB boys do.......then use slicks and get every advantage you can.

Oooooh the choices!!! Any advice welcome. Also best place to get tyres??

    Cheers Pablo

  2. I can vouch for the Metzeler Racetech Interact treaded tyre, great grip and longevity. I've run the K3 endurance f & r and a K1f/K2r combination which were awesome at Almeria in March. Bought the new treaded RR but yet to use it but I have high hopes especially as it has a new more rounded profile. Andy

  3. How much did you pay for the RR's? Heard they are very similar to the SC's in performance - which is awesome.

  4. Have a look at Oponeo for prices.

  5. 120/70/17 & 190/55/17, £235 the pair loose. Andy

  6. Thats uber cheap!!! I've seen the Metzeler Racetec rr 120/70 & 180/60 for about £300....not fitted.

  7. Bought my tyres from Micheldever Tyres for more than 40 years because they are routinely the best price with the widest choice. Not sure where they get the race tyres from but I've paid as low as £185 for a set in the past. Andy

  8. only downside of slicks is you have to have it dry, where even SCs you can ride with cold/damp patches

  9. Managed to get of spare wheels with wets on.

Like the idea of being able to switch the slicks over to get the most use. Shame our weather is not more predictable = Harry Redders!!

  10. Yep looking at Oponeo and Tyre Leader plus flea bay

  11. Micheldevers tyres have a retail arm called Protyre, each price structure is locally price against our competitors, I run Bristol, if your looking for wholesale, loose wheel fitting or fit to bike then I can do that, some centres do not fit to bike so knowledge of M/C may be slightly restricted, and issues pm me and I may be able to help even if not in Bristol, also we buy direct from factorys in bulk to fill 9 warehouses to supply the whole of the UK. We always try and give the best price and if an alternate supplier may be running an offer for a manufacturer but let us know and we'll do our best to help, tinternet prices are difficult because that are mainly buying administration stock and it can be old, so obviously someone's trying to get something before they become total loss!!!
