1991 900 Ss Restoration (slow)

  1. Sorry - i should have made it clear - the wires are actually black - i just highlighted them in a colour for clarity.

    So - interested that your 750 has the battery round the other way?
     
  2. Negative is on the left side; positive on the right.....looking from the rear......Vent tube on the left also...... All OEM.
     
  3. yep, early 900ss the other way round. Negative on right side... looking from rear

  5. Yes, i have this and haynes and original workshop manual and users manual. These do not help much with routing wires though.
     
  6. Point taken..........and I don't suppose pics of my bike in various states of undress will help as it is a later model....but save the attached pic beloew.....you might be needing it when you finally get there.

    What you need is more like this, I guess.

  7. THAT is very useful - and confirms where the 'blue' wire should go - uner the frame lug, not on top!!! THANK YOU
     
  8. Therein lies another difference with mine.............my battery to frame lead bolts on top of the airbox lug, because it has a steel bushed rubber grommet in the plastic lug and the steel bush stops the bolt and washer from crushing the plastic.
     
  9. Is that "blue" wire the lead to the side stand. Our 91 bikes have a different setup on the side stand warning switch
     
  10. No....he used colours to identify black leads to avoid confusion which caused the confusion.
     
  11. Here you are...this is what I meant about my airbox......note the rubber grommet, but the steel bush is missing.

  12. Yep - i have those - with the steel bush. I had not thought about the steel bush preserving the plastic lug, but now you mention it... I still think it is better placed under the frame lug as in the diagram you sent. In fact, I have just ground off the paint on the underside frame lug ready for the earth lead.

  14. I got the colour thing. That's why I put ""blue"" in quotes. I still think that the black wire may be the sidestand wire

    edit: yes my bad forgot the caveat as mentioned in other posts, some of the fine detail is not 100% accurate with 900ss.

    that was an awsome piece of information. I'm also in te process of rewiring my 750 and those graphics will come very handy

  19. Yes, it is a 750 (or possibly 600).......look at the clutch casing.
