I have just booked a trackday at Snetts on 22 October. It is another of the Bike magazine 'reclaim the tracks for road bikes' days. Last hurrah for this year, I think. OK so the weather might be terrible, but surely worth a shot. Anybody else tempted?
Yep, very tempted, just not sure about work yet - once I know closer to the date will be able to book it then. Did the 300 for the first time last month and was very impressed, it's a really fast flowing track. Enjoy.
I think the price is right (excuse the pun), but late October isnt my idea of ideal track time. The ride up from London will be cold and dark and even if the weather is good, the temp isnt going to far from 10 degrees. Hope the day goes well and I look forward to the report
If anyone fancies breaking the journey up we have a couple of spare beds here. We're about an hour from Snetterton and if anyone wants to travel up on the Sunday afternoon and kip down here just send me or Cooknick a pm. Chris
I quiet fancy it, ill be knackerd as i am at Cadwell the day before but it could be fun if i can wangle the day of work. Snetterton can throw up some surprise's with the weather. I got Sun burnt there in February !. And the 300 is a great track. If anyone needs a Hotel near by i would suggest "The Stag" which is 3 miles east of the track they have great food !! http://www.thebrecklandlodge.co.uk
No more "reclaim trackdays " for me. Some just van it up and park it around the corner any way. Know some peeps who were running full wets. Not much of reclaim the track imo.
It's true that a few people don't really follow the spirit of the thing as you say. But the vast majority simply ride up, do the track, and ride home. That's what I do.
I have just booked. The last chance to get out this year. Having done a few "Bike reclaim" I am confident that it is well policed. I was at Cadwell this year and the guy on a track bike was asked to leave.
didn't see them stopping anyone when people went out in full wets in the rain though. Pop back to the van, swap tyres. ride back. easy.
At Rockingham on 15 August, two guys did this (swap to full racing wets). But by that time the rain was deluging and most people had packed up anyway, so it made no difference.
Yes, I was sheltering under a tree outside Northampton, by that time. Wishing I had brought a van to! I think the concept is great though, road bikes only. But is incumbent on us the users, to tell the Bike Magazine guys if people are taking liberties.
Were you at Rockingham then? Yep I know the two guys who were running wets, but to be honest they were in the fast group, like me, with only two other riders on track. If I had wets, I'd want them too., They were perfectly fine on track, gave us lots of space when passing. Yes, not in the spirit of the day, but neither is picking it out of the gravel
No, I wasn't there on that day, because i felt it was cheating to go in a van and put on wets since specifically it was aimed at road bike users only. Considering I did my first ever track day in the wet on new dunlop 209s(the daddy at the time) I dont have any issues riding to the track and riding in the wet. But if my decision was that i wanted to run wets and come in a van, i'll book a day that allows me to. Which I did and ended up doing silverstone on the same day. And yes, the 2 on wets are good m8s of mine which we ride together all the time. Doesn't mean I agree though. Its in the spirit of things which I don't agree. Plenty of track days which do not have "reclaim the track" attached to it. Just my 2 cents worth though.
I am booked on with two mates we will be riding over in the morning, so it better be dry as i don't have any waterproofs  . However i may be tempted to invest in some ...... i should be easy to spot Bright yellow 916. Should be great fun at this price it is well worth the "punt, and as mentioned in my previous post Snetterton can through up some great weather so who knows. Find me and say hi ) Dave. Ill be on this.
I'd pop by if I weren't taking Nicky to hospital that morning! Hope you have a great day and the weather stays dry for you. Look forward to seeing some pics when you get back. Chris
So in the spirit of things is it better to have an empty track that no one is using because it's chucking it?
Hey DG welcome back  Just for the record I went out at Rockers in the pissing rain, but you knew that already :biggrin: Im already looking forward to riding those left handers next year
And if it wasn't chucking it? Thats quite irrelevant isn't it. Reclaim the tracks is for people to ride up and back home again like in the old days. You said it yourself, people are more cautious if they have to ride home. Why go in a van then and have the safety net of the van?
