Ok thanks for the info. I have looked on E Bay having typed in 1098 side stand. The only one that came up was in the U.S priced at roughly £40-50 inc postage etc. However it looks as if it comes without any brackets attached. Is there a more suitable search title I should use?...also just had a quick look at my existing side stand, I assume the 2 bolts you are referring to are the ones that secure it to the engine casing?.......and lastly, I guess that return spring has to be swopped over?
There was one for £45 on eBay the other day. 848 /1*98 all the same. You can use the original bracket / Spring.
Alternator cover painted, silicon hoses fitted and all accessible bolts changed for stainless steel jobbies, evoluzione low temp fan switch fitted, just needs wiring in.
Prototype stand made this aft at work. Needs a bit of work but just about there. Hope that Kais finish the rear shock next week and I'll take the forks to them for a re fresh.
Where you taking the forks and how much? Why a new shock rather than a refresh? Thinking of getting mine done and quoted £400 for forks and shock strip and rebuild and setting up for me.
Hi mate. Need to lift bike on rear stand, fit the back part of the stand, remove rear stand. Then lift the front end with the under fork paddock stand. Fit the vertical part of the new stand and remove the under fork one. Sounds like a bit of a chore but 2 minutes and done. I don't like leaving the bike on the under fork stand for long periods, just in case...
No, the rear shock is getting re sprung for my weight, full service and a new main body as it's not much and it should look like new when done. Been quoted £270 for that lot from Kais. Don't know how much for the forks but should be a lot less then that. All depends on whether they change the springs as these cost quite a bit.
Finally, after about 6 weeks, I got the shock back from KAIS. Had a bit of trouble when fitting it back on the bike but took it back to them, they made some adjustments and all's good. Looks like new. Cleaned up the petrol cap as well. Tried the hammerite smooth gold but didn't come out so good. Instead I used tamiya and looks better. These are expensive for what they are but the gold and silver works out the same as a can of hammerite. Finished off with polished stainless bolts. Dropped the wheels off for shotblasting and powder coating satin black.
Looking good , just got my wheels back from the powder coaters got them done gloss black and some new rubber for my 998
Just had a basic suspension setup. Well impressed with it. Feels miles better and only cost £35. I reckon it can be tweaked to get it even better but good enough. The bloke who did it, John at alpha suspension in Leeds has just sent the sheet through.
