H11 Bulbs Motorcycle Vs Car

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by johnv, Mar 31, 2016.

  1. Is there any difference between a motorcycle and car H11 bulb (not HID) ?

I vaguely remember that motorcycle bulbs are built to withstand a higher vibration level. Is this right ?

  2. wouldn't of thought so. if not go for the long life bulbs used for day time running headlights

  3. That may have been the case back in 6V days in over 40 years motorcycling I've never seen nor heard of a motorcycle specific H series bulb.

  4. Hi John

Way back in the day there was differences in construction in some of the headlamp shells, things like a mask over the top of the bulbs, fitted to reduce glare, would not be installed to shells for motorcycle use due to vibration. I've never heard of bulb differences though...................except maybe marketed that way to charge you more.

Over the years I just use whatever I can get my hands on and I've never noticed any difference so I would say no, but I'm not an industry insider.

To me an Hxx is an Hxx, as long as wattage and voltage are the same. The only exception being some of the extra bright (usually old H4s) where they run the bulb at an elevated temp to get more light output and higher color temp at the expense of bulb life

  9. I don't fancy the chances of that thing focussing on the road, the light will be scattered all over the place. The headlight reflectors are designed for a single point light source. That LED unit is anything but.
