Well it's a start! I once told a salesman who came for a job and later asked me why he didn't get it? "Never get your clothes where you do your food shopping!"
The grand plan is he gets into bikes so we have a hobby together for years to come. He asked for one last week. I said he was too young and they are very expensive so he needs to REALLY want one before I buy him one. His reply "it's ok dad, you have 3, I'll just use one of yours".
Bugger where do I start!! Left school at 15 and started an apprenticeship as a joiner at Chatsworth Estate, money was poor ( started on £3-14s a week ) at age 21 i got my class one HGV licence and started lorry driving, after a few years I changed job and started with an owner driver who had just got his second lorry a Volvo F88 which I drove delivering frozen food mainly, overland to Kuwait and Qatar taking around a month a trip including a return load to the UK, after a couple of years doing that I purchased my own lorry running coal and aggregates I finished up with three lorries of my own but the coal strike made work so competitive I sold two, parked one up for a few months and helped a mate with a barn conversion, this got me back into my trade and have never looked back, I have been a self employed joiner ever since. Now age 63 I have two children, my son 35 runs his own surveying company and my daughter 33 is finance manager for a company specialising in bending tubes for many different businesses including design and manufacture of the exhausts for 50% of the F1 grid. My wife still works part time as a secretary. Hobbies, I used to do grass track racing and my claim to fame was lapping the second placed car in a five lap race, I love anything with an engine including remote control helicopters of which i have three, love my two bikes and used to play golf with a handicap of 7, havn't played since I had bowel cancer 6 years ago. After 48 years in the haulage and building industry i can't wait to retire and start enjoying life a bit more. There's lots to tell but that will do for now. Steve
