  1. Pardon?

  2. If memory serves me well I think the 1500 GT was a pre crossflow engine and was the first ford engine built with a five bearing crank earlier 1000 and 1200 had a three bearing crank, this engine was a popular straight swap into the Ford Anglia for us boy racers, I went one further and put a Lotus twin cam in my Anglia a much bigger job as the clutch and brake master cylinders had to be relocated to allow the twin 40 webbers to fit.

  3. From memory my mate had a 1964 Cortina GT 4 door, had Consul on the bonnet emblem, it was a 1500 non cross-flow engine.

  4. Yep there was the Consul Cortina and Consul Classic the Classic had the same shape rear window as the Anglia.

  5. Mark 1 (Fred Hart with 3-section round tail-lights) or Mark 2??

  6. and twin headlights?

  7. I think all Mk 2s had the crossflow engine.

  8. Just googled Cortina Mark 2 1500GT and came up with images of Mark 2 1500GTs.
Did they switch to the 1600 during the model-run?

  9. "A stripped-out 1,200 cc version running the engine of the Ford Anglia Super was also available for certain markets where the 1,300 cc engine attracted a higher rate of tax. The 1,500 cc engines were at first carried over, but were discontinued in July 1967 as a new engine was on its way.[14] A month later, in August, the 1,300 received a new crossflow cylinder head design, making it more efficient, while a crossflow 1,600 replaced the 1,500. The new models carried additional "1300" or "1600" designations at the rear.[14] The Cortina Lotus continued with its own unique engine, although for this generation it was built in-house by Ford themselves."

  12. My brother used to ride a Tribsa in scrambles when I was still a nipper. A couple of the racers had lowered Mark1 1500GTs with wire wheels.
    They looked fabulous...

I think Old rider was referring to the Consul Classic with twin headlights.
Unfortunately we have moved a bit off topic.

  14. I was - and the Consul Classic Capri :)

  15. had a couple of those ^ the Classic and the Capri both had an option of the biggest version of the 3 bearing crank engine at 1340cc. At the time this got known affectionately within Dagenham circles as the "gutless wonder".

  18. Wtf, back to OP....

Left school at 16, served my time as a maintenance fitter. Worked in engineering ever since (I'm 51 now) and for the last 18 years I've been a field service engineer for a gas turbine company.
Married-divorced-married again. Got a smashing 17 year old son from 1st marriage.
Errrr, love bikes, cars, motorsport, footie and tons of other sports. I'll watch just about anything except basket ball. Because basket ball is fucking stupid! And that's the end of it!
I keep fit with running, cycling. I used to do Triathlons but my knees are a bit shagged now and hurt with too much training.
I'm happy. Life is good

  19. Where would be for classic vehicles if it weren't for farmers!
Never chuck anything away, just stick in it a barn, shed or field.

It's no coincidence that the term is 'barn find'...
