1200 DVT Exhaust Valve Issue

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by OtherbikesaBrompton, Mar 21, 2016.

  1. Will do.

  2. I have the same problem, loss of power on some days and vibrations above 5K rpm
So took off the exhaust can to look at the exhaust valve,
but was working fine, also in is normally in open position and closes only if the bike is revved in neutral
I put the bike in first and revved it all the way to 6K, the valve remains open

so that can't be what is causing all the problems while riding in gear

  3. well i clean mine and it feels alittle better but don't know may be its me.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  4. Just ordered it for DVT. Keep you updated with my experience...

  5. OK. Didn't like the XR at all, to revvy and really bad vibrations. Wrong engine for that sort of bike. Felt a bit gutless below 9k.

Loved the GS though, great burst of power at 6k. Didn't feel 30bhp down on the dvt at all. So I bought one :)

Didn't get the best price for my bike as expected.

So if anyone want's my dvt for 11k it's yours.

Will pop it on ebay tonight.

  6. Good stuff.
I've arranged a test ride again on the XR next week. In part to stop me looking at it longingly while my multi is in the garage again for the second time in as many weeks with only 1100 miles on the clock. Which GS did you go for?

  7. Went for the TE in red. Got free wire wheels, free panniers, free keyless ignition. And added gear assist pro :)

  8. Surprised you found it gutless, agreed it needs revving but it absolutely hammers the multistrada in every area in terms of performance.

Ultimately it's a superbike engine marginally detuned, so as you say,it's revvy but I guess that's what makes it more on the sports side, it's definitely that way more than it is tourer I guess

The GS are great bikes though, I'd happily consider one after the XR.

    Which bmw dealer was it?

  9. It was SBW in Welwyn. I had the S1000R before the DVT, I much preferred the engine in that style of bike.

I just like adventure bikes to have that instant twin cylinder thrust. But that's just my opinion :)

  10. Just got my MTS delivered back from the dealer with replaced pre-silencer. Off to work on it now to see how it runs. They've told me this is the 3rd 2015 MTS on which they have had to replace the pre-silencer. Sounds like a bad design to me.

  11. Just had mine (unofficially) permanently fixed by my dealer. Good as gold now. They start sticking if you ride in anything but dry conditions.

  12. How has the dealer permanently fixed it? I have sought guarantees from my dealer but nothing to my satisfaction.

It's not fit for purpose as a bike if you cannot ride it in the wet!

  13. Valve now forced permanently open. If you look back through the thread JH_1986 describes what I presume is a similar solution. It's not ideal and agreed it's not fit for purpose. But I don't want to change bikes, didn't want to be back and forth to the dealer and I need to ride mine year round.

  14. Hi JH. Can you tell me where you plugged it in, how long you've had it plugged in and has all been OK? Have you still got the valve in place, the Duc-ee just locks it in the open position?
    Thanks

  15. The Duc-ee just fools the ecu into thinking the valve is still connected after you've physically disconnected the actuator cable. Been running mine (pre-DVT) for a couple of years now - no issues.

  16. Been running mine since I posted and it's fantastic. Makes the exhaust ever so slightly louder and deeper at certain revs too. The plug is right by the regulator (square with fins) under the rider seat on the RH side of the bike. I unplugged the connector, turned the bike on to see the error, then plugged in the Duc-ee and restarted to ensure the error was gone.

  17. Great, thanks I'll look into it.

  18. What happens if the cable is disconnected at the valve and the valve held open ?
Is open clockwise or anti clockwise from above ?

  19. might be a bit naive here, but I'm not engineering minded. The Vizi Tech website says for the duc.ee - off highway use only? Any ideas why? Could it fail an MOT when it gets 3 years old or be too loud?

  20. 1. It's a US site.
    2. I've now had 2 MoTs with it fitted - no problem at all. OTOH, my 749R with full Ti Termi passes, so maybe the tester had his hearing aid off...
