1199 Jap4 Carbon

  1. Like many on here I have had the urge to bling up my bike with some nice carbon parts, I looked around for a while different manufactures etc, and in the end decided to go with Jap4. I ordered a seat cowl to start with as thought lets start easy. Anyway ordered the part before Christmas and it arrived some time in February after loads of emails!!! tried fitting the part and it was awful - the fit was that tight it actually chipped the paint on the back end. Obviously I contacted Jap4 and to their credit they said that they would send me out another. Email after email and eventually arrived some 6 weeks later!! Guess what didn't fit, it was exactly the same as the first. I agreed with Jap4 that I would try cutting the locating catch and re-bonding, which they agreed with. They also agreed to send me the centre piece free of charge because of the damage (I didn't ask for it for free BTW so cannot fault them for this) - However it has taken until today to arrive!! So all in all, ordered before Christmas and only just finished it.
It goes with out saying, I wouldn't recommend Jap4!!!

  2. Leigh, I understand your frustration exactly!!

I too fancied a bit of carbon for the Pani, I was looking for 6 items and I wanted them all from the one supplier so they matched and all delivered at the same time.
Despite spending ages ringing around different suppliers no one had the six parts I was looking for in stock, the best I could find was one outfit ( who shall be nameless for now ) who said they had 4 parts in stock and I'd get the other two in 2 weeks.

Fair enough,.. best out of a bad bunch I thought, so I placed the order with them on 2nd March, the total purchase amount was debited straight away from my card which was a bit naughty when I'd not received any goods yet?

Three days later a small cardboard box arrived at my home, and only contained the rear chainguard and the hugger.......where's the other bits I thought????

On the phone the next day to the boss of this outfit :-

Me - "You promised me the 4 part you had in stock straight away mate, I've only got 2 small bits here"

Boss man - " Hey, ....you don't realise what it's like down here!.....it's bedlam man!!, I'll have a look and see if we've got anything else??"

At this point I'm thinking " Its your business FFS mate, if you've not got any control its your fault!!" and alarm bells were starting to go off in my head!

3 days later an even smaller box arrived..........shock end cover, and that was it!!

    Back on the blower.........

Me - "Where's the rest of my bits you've promised me??? when am I going to get them????"

Boss man - " No Idea mate, who are you? ..what bits you waiting for???"

Me - "Well call your supplier and find out then??"

Boss man - "Ohh, he can't tell me either"

And its been like that with phone calls every week since early March, now, until last week when he said they were due a delivery in this week........I'll believe it when I see it mind, cos if pigs could fly this guy would be squadron leader!! .....and I'm still waiting for the last 3 parts, 6 weeks later!!

What p1sses me off even more is the fact that they are still advertising on ebay quoting delivery times of one week, when they know they don't have the stuff in stock, deliberately misleading the punters.

Having said all the above, the stuff when I get it is really nice -

The moral of this story is, if your thinking of getting some carbon for your bike, don't believe anyone when they say they have it in stock and prepare yourself for a long and frustrating wait dealing with muppets who don't give a shiny sh1te once they have your money!!

  3. Also used jap4 in the past for gixer parts to be honest never really had a problem with them perhaps a little expensive, what I would say though is it a one man band working out of his house in Northenden Manchester who is manufacturing partner is in the far east

  4. I've got carbon air tubes for my 748s a few years ago from jap4 and I was a bit disappointed. I've got other carbon for different bikes and was all good but the air tubes I got had no holes up at the headlights for the screw and the clamps on the airbox wouldn't catch the air tubes and kept falling off . The best carbon I've got and fast posted was from carbon King .

  5. A small point but it would bother me, being a stickler for detail. Your seat cowl Leigh has the old style badge on it, on a new model. Is it part of the cowl itself?

  6. Doh that's down to me I'm afraid dam stickers lol!!

  7. Conquest have always been really, really good for me.... I think their quality is great and their prices are great too (IMO).
