Fair enough. I'm far to much of a plodder to make any proper use out of a K2 on the road. I'd never get any temp into it!
Fair enough, each to there own, as per usual a tyre thread encourages all sorts of opinion. I love the feel of Pirelli but have never had a bike where they have lasted. I still think any fast road tyre included Diablo rosso or 'road smart' would be able to run fast group with the right rider, I'm just not sure how much is in our heads once we are already looking at the quality brands! Not suggesting people put nankangs on there or anything! Also worth considering price, my tyres wanted £197 for a rear supercorsa, the Dunlop was £170 from memory, the Rosso corsa somewhere in the middle so often we are swayed by bang for buck Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yeah that's a fair point mate I've just paid £208 delivered for my new drc's I can get them fitted for £15 front and rear loose so pretty cheap in my opinion
That's the point, they heat up quickly and retain heat even with midly sprited road riding. Didn't use tyre warmers until Almeria this year and at my standard, I'm not totally sure there was any difference in grip although in the extreme of the track environment the tyre shear was hugely reduced which could also have been getting the pressure right. Andy
That's not how I understand it. The K3's are the 'road-biased' tyre and will heat up quickest out of the K1/K2/K3 compounds. The K2's are softer than the K3's, but in order for them to work adequately they need to be worked harder to get the temperature into them and then also need to be worked harder to retain that heat. That becomes more extreme for the K1. During the recent BSB test over in Spain, many of the teams were running K3 compounds (well, Supercorsa SC3's, rather than Metzeler racetech's) because the low track/air temps dictated that they couldn't work the softer compounds hard enough to get the correct temperature in them. Anywho, I'm not trying to start an argument, I'm sure the K2's on your 1098R will be just fine and dandy.
^ No offence taken Matt. You can only speak as you find and like everything in this world, folks like different things. My personal hates are Dunlops and Continentals which have a huge following. Hey ho . Andy
Emailed Pirelli they have plans to bring out the lll in a 60 profile later on in the year and no plans for a new Corsa
Why not consider some Michelin Evo Supersports?? They do a correct profile 180/60 for the 899 I've given up with the Rosso Corsa's as I can't get more than about 2,200 miles out of them, also there are no wear bars in the centre so it's difficult to judge how worn they are getting, totally unintentionally my last ride on them ended up like this :- I fitted the Michelins as my 4th rear tyre and I've been really pleased with them so far, I've done about 900 miles on this set and they grip really well. They also have the advantage of wear bars in the centre grooves so you can see exactly how much tyre you have left before going out for a ride Only slight downside is the tread wraps right around up the sidewall so your "Chicken strips" look massive! no chance of getting near the edge on the road Only done 40 miles on this back one after getting it fitted at Ducati Glasgow on a weekend away. I really rate these tyres and can buy a rear one for about £118 off the internet and fit it myself. Worth considering them
Also looking to try a different tyre. I already tried a 180/55/17 DRC after the original wore out. Worked fine, even on track. It just calms the turn in a wee bit not too much. Nicer for the road. No hassles either with the traction control. Ordered a new set of M7 RR s so will see how these go since it will be used mainly on the road.
