Where Is The Paint Code?

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by SurreyST3Owner, Apr 19, 2016.

  1. Hi all,

I need to identify the paint code on my ST3. I've got the electronic and mechanical codes on a credit card size card in with the service books and docs. Can't see a paint code anywhere in my ST3 docs.

Obviously, it's not in the V5, although I wish it was :grinning:

I need to identify my paint code, can anyone help please?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. UPDATE...

I have subsequently found out that paint codes do not exist any longer according to Ducati Aylesbury, who sold the bike according to service book.

They put me on to RS Motorbike Paints, who, once they had gone through Google Images to identify which colour (Light Grey Silver Metallic) is what I need, were embarrassed to say that this is one of those rare colours that they haven't been able to match - yet.

No, I didn't want a ride of 1 hour there - wait around for them to remove a thumbnail of paint from my bike to help them match it and wait for 10 days for the 250ml of required base coat!

Ducati, why have you made it so difficult for us?

  3. Thanks for that, it's appreciated. They won't supply 250ml of base coat, just a touch in paint, which is a pity.

  4. Have a look on Ducati UpNorth forum. They're on there.

  5. Not aware of that forum, but being a southerner, would they allow me on? :grinning:

  6. Even sassenachs can get on :p :D

  7. That says it all then, I'll take a look soon :grinning:

Seriously though, many thanks for the heads up on that.

  8. Take your bike or a part of the fairing or something fairly small and flatish to any good auto paint supplier who should be able to scan it and give an exact match.

I had this done when I needed a match the colour on a vintage Ducati that has been part restored and sprayed. I had to wait a week or so but the match was spot on.

  9. Ha, great minds think alike. I'm off with the bike to L.E. Went in New Malden, Surrey. They're an established car paint specialist. They said they can match it same time as taking it over.

They have a really good reputation, so I'm going their soon

  10. Don't know if this helps as it doesn't mention ST3 but it maybe the same as another model?;

  11. Many thanks for pasting that on here. I'm thinking that it looks like the Light Grey Metallic, although with the 3 year difference between when that chart was produced and when my bike was built, I'm not sure if it's the same?

Will mention it to paint company when I go see them today. Thanks very much for your help, its appreciated.
