  3. Ive got a 8*6 plate. It's supposedly road legal, and is marked with the BS number as it should be, along with the makers details...

  4. Swot !

  5. It also need the manufactures, name & postcode to be legal it seems (even if it complies with all aspects).
I think a BS number can be obtained with the British font style and the right colour back ground, the road legal size is larger than 8x6" even if the letters were the correct size, the spacing in between or the border would not be large enough as I understand it..

Got mine sorted now, thanks for the replies

  6. So - just to add to this, is 8.6 legal....the reason I ask is my new hyper has a twin exit sc project evo system and the plate (currently 7x5) sits inbetween the pipes and I reckon the "Big plate" wont fit...but an 8x6 will...or at least it looks like it will....im not near the bike at the moment so I cant confirm....but the MOT is looming...

  7. 7x5

never had an issue (with the size of my plate that is)

  8. I had an 8x6 and my one does not comply with the regulation measurements, that is not to say some testers may let it go.

I actually spoke to police person about this and this is when the postcode and manufacture thing came up.
I said but if it complies with all the standards, i.e. border, gap in between letters, font etc.. etc... he said no not legal - it's still a show plate.

I said that is crazy, as it complies and he said, they pull people for it and more often than not, they have other things to hide.

I will be getting a big plate for my MOT.

  9. Ill just have to work out how to fit it then........should be interesting...

  10. Is this not age-related?

Surely, at least some of this is relatively recent legislation and older vehicles can't be expected to have replacement plates fitted simply in order to comply - or can they??

  11. That is true old rider, apparently after 2001 it comes into force (someone perhaps knows more than me) I am not an expert but this copper had pulled people for it.

I think imports maybe exempt also?

  12. Rats! My 999 is a 2003... :/

  13. I would not worry too much, this has got a bit OTT.

I have my new reg personal reg now :)

  14. Mine's pretty small but never have any problems, most of the time its covered in shit anyway. image.jpeg

  15. I had an 7x5 plate (and arrow race system) on my ZX6R last year and when I was near my house a cop car was waiting in a little cul de sac as I passed....

I watched him in my mirrors for a while and he watched me for a good while (20mph limit) then turned the other way and off he went

Pulled up by home, wheeled my bike up the drive backwards, unlocked the garage, turned round and noticed I had no plate :D

My whole tail tidy had snapped off ha ha ha

  17. Haven't been pulled yet... 7x5.5 pressed. Was tempted to get a white for the rear but then I thought I'd be taking the pi$$

  20. Well, going back to my original conundrum - I got a full size stock plate made up on Saturday....and its too big to go inbetween the pipes...but, if I cut the sides down itll just about go in...so, if I shave the sides off - will it pass as the letters and numbers are/will be the stock legal size...?
