My 998 insurance comes up next month and my insurance is set to soar from £195 to £447.49 because Swinton, my current insurance brokers, have lost their most competitive company as they have dropped out of the bike market. I have tried to Ducati Insurance they want £331-15. Can anyone recommend someone that they think is competitive and will do a decent deal. I remember MCE used to be cheap but read some horror stories on the old forum, are they still as bad? I would like to target some decent broker etc. and save myself a (lot) of time just hunting around with no joy. For some background I am in London. max no claims and happy to limit riding to even as low as 1000 miles per year. The bike has a Cat 1 alarm and is datatagged and is locked away securely. Any suggestions gratefully received otherwise the long trek round the brokers begins!!!
Have you tried Carole Nash? Everytime my insurance comes up for renewal CN always (eventually) come up with the best deal. I've been insuring through them for nigh on 20 years now.
ebike were very good when I insured my first big bike. However, as they are solely internet based, I'd be wary trying to make a claim if you have to.
Adrian Flux have always done a decent deal for me, and only yesterday they came up with a very good price for me to add a 2nd bike to the policy.
I have just gone through compare the meerkat again for the rvf, I did the same with the duke, motorcycle direct came up good for the duke and the girl I spoke to dropped the price by £50 what you have to be mindful of is insurers where they are Internet only based you can't get them to deal its the price on the screen, ebike are good but you can't deal. Shame about Swinton, I've Just gone through Swinton for the rvf but all my other insurance is with them house car etc so they treat me well!
I meant that they may not be easily reachable on the phone. I tried to amend something and even though I called their system, I was instructed to email them (took them ages to reply). I don't know how it is now but when I had them I didn't feel comfortable if I had to make a claim.
Point taken, but as they're all crooks I can't see much of a difference between any of them. I'll find out how hard Ebikes are to deal with today, cos I've got to change bikes.
Well, I've just changed bikes online and it couldn't have been simpler, just swapped bike details on the online form and submitted it, and my change was confirmed immediately with no costs! You can't argue with that.
MCE always come up the most competitive for me. However; be aware they will arse feck you at every opportunity to make some money back, including ~£40.00 fee if you make any amendments and you'll be made to wait and "apply"for a refund should you need one. I had a huge row with them earlier this year, I had to threaten them with the ombudsman, at which point a nice lady in customer service adjusted the admin fee and provided an instant refund. Shame it had to come to that... Make you wonder how they'd behave in the event of a claim!
I get shafted by every insurance company because of the baggy state of my license. Their online quotes are beyond the pale - if they don't refuse me altogether that is - but all it usually takes is a phone call or two to ask if they'll review the quote, and normally the price plummets. However, that didn't work this year and most of the (multibike) quotes were high, with the companies saying they can't drop any lower. Except E-bikes, who's quote was low to start with. As Yets said, you can't ring and barter with them, but if they're cheaper to start with it's not a problem.
My insurance is up for renewal, some of the quotes are reasonable, but the excess quoted beggars belief! £500-600!!! I'm in my 40's, live in a decent area, owners club member, with riding qualifications, and the bike is unmodified and locked in a workshop! I've got full no claims on two and four wheels and just an SP50 from nearly four years ago.
Just been onto Moneysupermarket and Swinton are the cheapest for me Fully comp at £90 although I have been with MCE for the last two years they come in at £130 with RAC breakdown, loan bike, and personal injury cover, so I think I will stay where I am. 748 with two years no claims. Steve
Try Bennetts, they are cheap but utterly shite when it comes to customer service. Good if you only need it to keep legal, awful no dout if you need to make a claim at some point.....
I was recently told by someone in the trade that Carole Nash underwrites most policies in much the same way that Norwich Union had it sewn up in the 70's. Indeed, I'm currently with Groupama which is in turn underwritten by Carole Nash, paying a slightly higher premium than I think right. Next time I'll go via Carole Nash direct and do a deal over the phone, plus you can add other bikes at a very reasonable increase. Or so I'm told?
