Agreed. This is a problem for the tracks, Ducati, us and the system used to test. I don't understand the point of the static noise test. What does it prove. None of the neighbours to these tracks are 50cm from my exhaust pipe! Let alone when I'm pulling 5,500 revs. It's nonsense!! Put in more drive by meters and if we fail those then we are loud in the real world.
Hi All, I went on a trackday to brands on the 14th April. There were 3-no. Panigale's ready to ride (2-no. 1299's and my 1199). During the static noise testing out of the 3-no. Panigale's mine blew 104db and the other two blew 105db. 2 of the 3 bikes had Termignoni's fitted by Ducati and 1 had the OEM exhaust. The only bike allowed on track to try the drive-by noise test, was the bike with the OEM exhausts, even though it was 1db higher than mine. The drive-by was passed and he was allowed to carry on with the day. I have been firing emails in every direction as I had a full Termi system fitted by Ducati the week before and Brands told me that Ducati new this would not be allowed since January. This is part of the response from the circuit: "There is a caveat for the noise testing procedure for Panigale models, but this applies to completely standard exhaust systems only. We have gathered extensive noise testing data for the Panigale and have agreed the following with the local council. ·If a Panigale (everything except the new 959) is presented for static noise testing with a standard exhaust system (silver or black system underneath the foot pegs) the bike will still be tested, probably fail, BUT will be allowed to take part and will be monitored on ride-by meters the same as any other bike. ·Please Note – If a Pangiale attends noise testing and has anything other than the standard Ducati system (this includes Ducati approved Termignoni or Akrapovic systems) it will be tested as per the regular static test procedure, probably fail (as the standard system does) and not be allowed to take part in the event." So there you have it. Currently, if you do not have the standard OEM exhaust fitted to the bike you will NOT be allowed to get on track. Cheers, Matt.
It's completely f**king stupid... I've just gone and bought a cheap 600 so I can actually do some trackdays this year, I did Silverstone last year with OEMS and am doing the Ducati day this year with Termis so hopefully get on ok... shame cos Brands is one I'd really like to do as living down south it's one of the closer tracks to me... out of interest anyone @royalwithcream (I'm looking in your direction) know what the levels are for Spain (Jerez and Almeria?) may well me moving out there next year so if I can ride it there I'll keep it otherwise I might get rid after Silverstone..
Good detective work. Confirms what we all seem to already have heard. Don't think that there is an easy solution for us without a change of heart from MSV.
Some organisers quote 105dB for Almeria, others quote no limit. Almeria is in the middle of nowhere. Noise limits at Spa are getting worse as well. Most days are 100dB, with the occasional noisy day allowed. I did a Ducati-only day there a few years ago when the limit was 102dB. Everyone was given a static test. My 1098s with slip-ons scraped through. If you failed the test, you didn't get out. No exceptions. Unless you knew the organiser... A D16 was going around in the afternoon and that was seriously LOUD!
I know that my 853 hasn't got an icecream's chance in hell so I'm now wondering what my 1098R with 70mm system and baffles will measure. It may be my only chance of doing a track day at Brands. Andy
A guy I work with stopped off at Brands on Wednesday evening on his way home from work as he saw there was a track day on - he knows someone that works there doing noise testing and as he's thinking of booking a track session, had his bike tested (standard system), which it failed 1@ 104db, he was told what has been said above - because he has the standard system, he can do the ride by test, but if he were to have either the Termi or Akra system fitted, then it was simply a case off "too loud, so not allowed on track"
This is totally nuts in fairness to the circuit I'm sure it down to the local council . However seems a straight forward choice save your money on the exhaust and spend it on track days
Does anyone know if this MSV response applies to all of their circuits? Ie is it a general company policy applied to their tracks? As mentioned im going to Cadwell. I will look into changing my cans back but am seriously frustrated! My 848 with termi slip ons would always scrape through. I'd get 102 on the nose and that was with me holding the revs lower than the tester said. Never tripped the drive by at Brands (only circuit I've ridden as I'm a local lad). Problem at brands is that the local residents complain about everything they can. Literally. The pricks move next to a race track that's been there for over 100 years and complain about the noise. I don't think idiots like that should be entertained but welcome to the nanny state we now live in. They'd really have something to moan about if Palmer found a way to develop brands in to thousands of houses with a mosque in the middle of it. I bet the lovely people of west kings down would soon shut up about the noise.
